Pink About It

Fun fact: now that I’m divorced (that’s not the fun part) and have been in my own home for over a year, I’ve felt totally free to decorate with whatever the heck I want. And whatever the heck I want is usually pink. I have pink dishes, pink rugs, a pink sofa, pink pillows, pink blankets, pink paintings, pink vases, and I keep wanting to paint my piano pink try and stop me. (You are picturing something super tacky right now, but don’t worry. There’s more to it than that. I will take pictures for you sometime, I promise. I’m not a regular blogger, I’m a bad blogger).

Anyway, I had so much gray in my life for so long (figuratively and decoratively) that pink just feels good … it feels so happy and optimistic to me. You can’t go wrong with pink. Actually that’s a lie. You totally can. I ordered a pair of chairs for my kitchen table last week, and as soon as I opened the box I knew I had to send them back, because they were such a violent, aggressive pink.

I DO have a picture of that, straight from my phone, please enjoy:

And here’s what it was supposed to look like:

Big difference yeah?

There’s a lot of right and wrong ways to do pink, and the trending pink is very soft and pretty. It almost leans toward a rosy beige rather than red.

Here’s a perfect example from Carmel at Our Fifth House.

If I wasn’t in a rental, I would probably be painting my bathroom vanity pink too. I love this so much.

What do you think? Are you with me on Team Pink??

First thing I did after my divorce was buy a pair of pink leather shoes. I can totally relate. Who NEEDS pink shoes? Nobody, certainly not a mom of three boys. Which is exactly why I bought them! No one to force me to be practical. Yay pink!

The week we separated (not even divorced!) I bought a gorgeous cow hide rug. It was pretty much the only thing he commented on when he came to collect some stuff.
I like a little pink. Painted a bathroom a very pale pink once, which went really well with white subway and navy iridescent penny tile.

Not on the pink team specifically, but give me any bright color, I’m there! Orange, lime green, sky blue, mellow yellow, purple, you name it, Amy color of the rainbow, I love to mix it up. I’m a quilter, bold, modern, I’m in. Enjoy you’re freedom! Tho, what stopped you before? My husband doesn’t give one wit about color – he looks to me for advice (I guess I wonder if he’s color-blind? No, he’s not, just disagree with the artist in the household!)

I did spray paint the farm gates for the two driveways from standard faded red to purple with first green posts. An old stodgy neighbor said “you know that gay’s colors?” I didn’t say a think but thought, hmm, every color is God’s color – flowers anyone?

    You go girl!

I HAVE A GARAGE SALE RULE…I AM ALLOWED TO BUY ANYTHING PINK, just because it’s pink. All other items must have a purpose, but not pink things. God threw those in the garage sale just to say he loves me. God and I both

Timing couldn’t be better! Just came in from shopping with my daughter and bought all new pillows and throws in blush! Husband said looks too girly. Gus’s what – he lost, they stay!

Maybe I’ll test my marriage and start my own pinkness of furniture. I think a real man could take a pink recliner, don’t you? Man enough to sit on pink. Sensitive enough not to fart on it. Hmmmm.

HAHAHAHAAAAAA that is too freaking funny. I’m hoping to someday find a man who loves pink, or will tolerate it for my sake.

Ink, Pink, you stink! Hee hee, that was the motto of my childhood! You said it to someone you didn’t like, coz that is the funniest insult a 5 year old can say to another 5 year old. Amirite?
Pink. Hmmmmm, not the biggest fan of pink, but hey, what rocks your world is the important bit, yes! Those fluorescent pink chairs though.., drag-queen styling or what! Ugh!
What a minute….I just realised I am wearing pink nail polish…….derrrrrrrr…….

I became a believer in pink after my first daughter was born. Always thought it was too girly up until then. It’s such a happy colod!

Yep- love your pink! Bummer about the chairs though. They are a bit too much but at least you got a laugh and they could be returned. Hang in there, life gets different and sometimes that’s all you need.

You’re totally right about that pink chair! I don’t have much pink at the moment (I’ve gone and trended turquoise these last few years), but in the past I’ve had a fair amount and loved it.

Hooray for color therapy and making a new space your own! I get that 100%, when my hubby and I separated I went the purple route to reclaim my space. Enjoy decorating for you and please keep sharing! We love your style. 🙂

I like the violent aggressive pink chairs. That’s the only pink I can deal with. I’m not on team soft pink. HOWEVER, the reason you’re doing it makes all the sense in the world. So, carry on with that soft pink.

If pink is what makes you happy, then go for it! These days there are so many good options for renters – like temporary vinyl stick-on wallpaper – you can really indulge yourself.

Lindsey, I took another look at the pink vanity. I think the pink & the black offset each other and it’s lovely. My favorite pink remains hot pink. Like a violent, aggressive chair I saw somewhere.

yes! i love pink too! but i can’t have it on my house a lot , because i do not have a husband neither, but i have a teenager boy, that don’t link pink stuff. So i’m waiting patiently the moment when he leave me, and get his own space. jaja

I’m a blue person, which is good since I have a husband and four a sons. But sometimes I come across something pink like that vanity and I’m like “am I living the wrong life?” There is a total void of pink in our house/my closet/everywhere. Now and then I try to think how I could get some pink, but I come up blank every time.

Lol, ‘am I living the wrong life??’ You could always doll up some random space like the laundry room or the pantry or something like that. Go for it. You deserve some pink!!

I’m totally on Team Pink! In fact, I saw a raspberry pink fringy pillow the other day and almost bought it. I would have had to redo my *entire* downstairs to go with that pillow, but it’s still on my mind and I’m about ready to get rid of my tastefully-muted Pottery-barn-inspired decor and go with the pink!
