Moms are the best, aren’t they? Who else is going to gestate you for 9 months? Read your blog? (Hi mom!) Keep an eye out for a dining set because they know you need one, AND negotiate a lower price on it?
That’s the story of this table, which Vicki discovered at a second-hand store in Florida for her daughter Jennifer. Jennifer was tired of using her dining room for everything but dining, but was having trouble finding what she wanted. Vicki thought this table might be the kick in the pants she needed to take a step forward. It was exactly what Jennifer had dreamed of, except for not.
But all it needed was a fresh coat of paint and a quick reupholstery job, and it looks brand new! If you’ve never reupholstered anything before, chairs like this are the easiest place to start. Get yourself a decent staple gun and I’m confident the newest of newbies could have them done in a couple hours, if not less.
Isn’t that pattern fantastic? Jennifer adores her new dining set now. You can see more on the blog she shares with Vicki, 2 Bees in a Pod. That’s right, watch out, they’re a mother/daughter blogging team too!

November 7, 2016 at 3:53 PMLove the makeover! LOVE your blog! MY makeover question: I have a table with a laminate top. The rest is solid wood. IT’S ugly but so sturdy I hesitate to “wreck” it. I’d ove to stain it a darker color… any suggestions?

November 8, 2016 at 6:12 AMThe pros will tell you that you cannot stain laminate, since it’s not real wood. It’s basically plastic printed to look like wood. Different than veneer, which is actual wood, albeit a very very thin layer. However! I’ve seen it done before with gel stain. Here is one example: http://www.hometalk.com/12829999/staining-laminate-yes-it-can-be-done?expand_all_questions=1
Good luck!

November 9, 2016 at 4:14 PMI actually liked the before. Why the compulsion to paint everything white? I suspect it’s the fear of making a wrong color choice. Boring. I’m totally sick of house after house done in white or other neutrals. I let my country Living subscription lapse when they started doing the White Issue every February. I asked myself “And how is this issue different from the rest of the year?”
