Reflections on a baby gate, literally. And figuratively.

Hey you! I’m back, I think. I took off for a minute there. I don’t know what happened really, I just couldn’t muster up the energy to blog for a while. My husband has been traveling extensively since the beginning of the year and there’s also that part where I have four kids. NEWS FLASH: kids require a lot of time and attention. How much time and attention, you ask? ALL OF IT.

I don’t want to be a “mom stuff is hard!” whiner, but I did not actually get to shower until after midnight last night. And it was with an audience, because my toddler currently thinks that sleep is 100% unnecessary. So he was wider than wide-awake, screaming at me and banging on the shower door, when he wasn’t busy digging through my makeup and writing on his face with eyeliner.

That’s basically my life in a nutshell.

I’m fine! Just a little tired and stressed.

But hey, aren’t we all?

In other news, let’s talk about baby gates. I think I need to erect a few around my house. Maybe if I could keep my kids neatly corralled into one area, I’d finally have a handle on my sanity? Could possibly shower alone?

But what to do with those baby gates when you no longer need them? Don’t ask me, I’m not capable of coherent thought. Ask Joan. She knew just what to do with this lattice-style baby gate …

Baby Gate Mirror Before

Baby Gate Mirror

A rustic re-purposed mirror! How cool, right?! And it looks huge too. This would make a substantial statement on any wall.

Joan’s blog is called Scavenger Chic, but she shared the full tutorial for this mirror project over at My Repurposed Life. Check it out! And then make one yourself!

Babysitters saved my sanity. Even when I was home, just having someone else in the house for a couple hours to keep the kids busy while I got things done. Like showering.

So sorry to hear about the sleepless toddler! I recently put my kid in a sleep sack at night so she couldn’t stand up easily in her crib and certainly couldn’t crawl out. Game changer! She had no choice but to learn to fall asleep. Thanks for always making laugh, a tall order after little sleep myself!:)

Ohhh, I’ve never considered that. Going to file that away for that dreadful day when he starts climbing out of his crib.

No way – that is a beautiful project! Oh, Lindsey, you are deep in it. It’s delightful, of course, the joy of mommyhood, but…no, we are going with delightful. Take care of yourself!

So glad you’re back! But mostly glad you’re okay! And mom stuff IS hard. I can barely keep up with one, I don’t know how you make it with 4! So whenever you need a break, don’t worry about us over here. We’re just glad you’re okay =)

You have four kids?! Holy moly! I’m pregnant with number four and it’s all I can do to keep up with normal life, never mind extras like blogging. Granted, my oldest is only 6. I’m hoping it gets easier as they grow older and more independent. That seems to be the trend so far with the older kids but I keep having babies so I still have lots of intense care responsibilities.

Oh yeah, four under six, you’re right in the middle of it! My oldest is 14, so he does help out quite a bit. I always say I should have had teenagers first!

I am currently single parenting it to while my husband works the crazy farmers hours. I however said screw a shower I am going to bed dirty… or was that my husband that said “your not going to shower?” I didn’t care I was just too tired.

Haha, I think I had said “screw it!” to a shower too many times in a row, it was more than necessary at that point!

Sleep sacks are beautiful. I thought they were stupid with my first two but wized up by baby #3. A onsie with a sleep sack on top makes late night diaper changes so much easier since it involves less undressing than a regular zippered sleeper. Many sleep sacks unzip from the bottom up.
LOVE them, they’re worth every penny.

Dang that was creative! I would NEVER have thought of that with a tired mommy brain or totally have all my marbles in one bag brain.

I have to say this is maybe one of my most favorite “after’s” ever. I don’t think anyone would guess it was a baby gate.
