Did you know there’s a difference between geeks and nerds? Yep, it’s true. According to MastersInIT.org, the terms ‘geek’ and ‘nerd’ have different historical origins, traits, jobs, and even favorite movies.
A ‘geek’ is someone with a specific niche-interest or lifestyle that they have become an expert on, while a ‘nerd’ has an extreme interest or fascination with academics.
Geeks’ interests might include: gaming, film, collecting gadgets or technology, computing, coding, hacking, techno music, or screen printing; while nerds’ interests might include: Battlestar Galactica, LARPing, SecondLife, Physics, Chess, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or computer programming.
Geeks are most likely to love Anchorman, Donnie Darko, Tron, Office Space, and Arrested Development; while Nerds are most likely to love Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Matrix, and Pi.
So if someone calls you a ‘nerd’ or a ‘geek,’ guess what? Both of those are pretty cool. Don’t be afraid to own it. Wear your geekiness/nerdiness with pride!
These dresser makeovers are will totally make your inner geek squeal with glee:
A Tardis dresser! Geektastic! (Is Dr. Who geeky or nerdy? I’ve never actually watched this show, but my kids are huge fans. Please advise).
I know this next one is nerd-friendly, only because Star Wars was mentioned the ‘nerd’ category above. I’ve never actually watched Star Wars either. Oh wait, I just reread that paragraph. It actually says Star TREK is nerdy, it didn’t mention Star Wars. I don’t know much about either one, but I think there’s a difference? *ducks as diehard fans throw things at me*
Geeky? Nerdy? I don’t know! But I DO know an awesome makeover and a talented artist when I see one.
Molly at Just a Little Creativity is responsible for both of these adorable dressers, so head on over to her blog for much more! See the Dr. Who dresser makeover here.
So what are you? Geek? Nerd? I obviously fall into neither category. Nerdily fascinated with academics? No. I sweat when I have to do math. Expert level interest in film or technology? My favorite movie is Wayne’s World, so … no. I do have a love of cheesy puns and a propensity for dancing badly in public.
I must be a dork!

March 9, 2016 at 2:53 PMWe are a family of Geeks, and it’s makes our hearts happy to see others who understand the difference, haha! Basically Nerds are the science-y, math-y people, who are often into geeky stuff, too. Both like to dress up. I’m going to be painting a Batman dresser soon, for my 6 year old. Our own room (hubby and me) have Boba Fett collectibles and prints, along with my Doctor Who stuff. Hubby also likes making costumes (though he’s never been to a Comic-Con), actually loaned a Mandalorian one to a friend for his granddaughter’s birthday this past weekend. I confess, I used to hate the Boba Fett stuff being out, in our “grown up” room, and had plans to banish it all to the garage, but hubby had a heart attack in November and almost died (his heart began healing the day we were matching him to organ recipients and disconnecting him). Now I’m fully on board with letting our Geek Flag fly! Life is short, enjoy it! Love the BB-8 dresser!

March 9, 2016 at 3:12 PMI’ve never seen Star Wars either. Well except for the 8 minutes or so I was in the same room while Jason & Easton watched it. That’s all it took to banish myself to the other room. Turns out I’m even less of a fan than I even thought I would be! I will duck down next to you😉. There were definitely some things on those lists that I do love though & I’ve got a few boys here who do appreciate the genius of Star Wars along with most others in the world! I’m just a weirdo I guess! I wonder what the exact definition of that is…

March 9, 2016 at 4:08 PMI LOVE the Tardis dresser!! I’m a HUGE Dr Who fan & I watch the episodes again & again (drives my hubby crazy!). We have seen the old Star Wars movies but were only fans of the first 3 that came out way back in the day. Haven’t seen the new one & have no plans to see it. But I’d love to have a Tardis at my house!

March 10, 2016 at 4:53 AM*snort* There goes coffee on my keyboard – you always make me laugh! I am a huge nerd and am currently slowly going through my Hobbit DVDs – I could watch How They Did It for hours but try and make it last because this is the end of it (sob). I am not even slightly interested in making anything as pictured (although I would take a Hobbit Home) but totally embrace the awesomeness!

March 10, 2016 at 5:31 PMDork: Slang. a silly, out-of-touch person who tends to look odd or behave ridiculously around others; a social misfit:
Yep, I’ll bet your the funniest dork on the block! Keep it up, because Dorks don’t care what other people think of them. They are just … themselves!

March 16, 2016 at 9:40 AMI love it! Both of the makeovers are so cool. I personally don’t know if I’m a geek or a nerd as I have traits of both of them, but then again I dislike labelling people…
Anyways, I got some cool geeky makeovers as well!
