I heard a rumor that there is going to be a ‘reboot’ of The Labyrinth. Uh, esqueeze me? Nobody asked my permission for this to happen, because I would have said “No.” And also “Don’t be stupid.” C’mon Hollywood, is there really anyone on earth who can play a better Goblin King than David Bowie?? Is there? There is not. Travesty. Some things just can’t be improved upon.
However, I am a little excited for Grease: Live because A: I like Julianne Hough and B: it can’t get any worse than the original. YEAH I SAID IT.
Which just goes to show that some things CAN be improved on.
Like this credenza! Left alone it was a fine mid century modern piece, if not starting to show its age.
So Reeves at The Weathered Door just breathed a little new life into it without compromising its inherent style.
And look inside! What a great detail. She used high gloss white paint around the frame and deepened the drawer color with a gel stain. They look spectacular next to each other.
Now THAT’S a reboot.

February 1, 2016 at 12:58 PMOh wow!! I want that piece in my house before or after but after is pretty darn incredible. The white with the dark wood is really wonderful. Very well done. I love those legs and the modern lines. This has me tempted to go get on craigslist and risk divorce because I just now discovered I need one more piece of furniture to complete my unfinished project hoard! 😉

February 1, 2016 at 2:00 PMI was 14 when Grease came out (yes I am old!) and I know every word to every song…and most of the choreography! NO the remake did not do it justice and NO it did not improve on it at all….for those of us who grew up with the original it was painful! THAT was a travesty! All that being said…LOVE this piece. Did one similar and while I don’t normally paint MCM pieces, a few can be improved on with a little paint! Just do a little online research and make sure you aren’t spray painting a piece that may be worth A LOT of money to a real collector!

February 1, 2016 at 2:16 PMNow that I’ve watched it, I have to agree and say it didn’t really improve on the original, or do it justice at all! Still fun to watch, but kinda … I don’t know … unnecessary? Not sure what the point was, and Danny looked like he was 45 years old!

February 1, 2016 at 4:59 PMJust can’t see anyone but John Travolta in that role…and what was up with Kenickie!!??? I know the guy who played the role from DWTS (a family fav) but he was ALL wrong for the role!!! I think it was more of a “stage” type production than a movie or TV thing….but again, when you grew up with the original (and sang and danced the entire movie at your friend’s house every day after school!) it just didn’t cut it. The music was all wrong, the choreography was soooo bad, and the casting (except for Julianne) was way off base! Made me sad for the younger generations who might never see the original! Course this is why I have a DIY blog and not a blog that reviews plays, television or movies…lol!

February 1, 2016 at 8:55 PMYeah, I think the Keniki character bugged me worst of all! He had no edge or charisma.

February 1, 2016 at 5:10 PMThere’s actually a *petition* (and yes, I’ve signed it!) to stop the Labyrinth “reboot”. From what I’ve read, it’s actually supposed to be more of a sequel. Still don’t care, still don’t want it to happen. No Bowie, no Labyrinth. Period, end of story!! You don’t mess with perfection! And they can’t make a Labyrinth sequel without a Jareth. I cringe thinking of who on earth they’d end up casting for that role.

February 2, 2016 at 3:01 AMI love this piece! Great job on the paint. I can’t really weigh in on the Grease reboot (didn’t watch it) or the Labyrinth reboot (is this sci-fi?) but I did see the recent Point Break reboot. I thought they did a great job of updating the original; all of the sports were extreme 🙂

April 25, 2019 at 2:15 AMLove it. How much did you have to sand it down to apply the gel stain? Also what type of paint did you use. Well done!
