Gilly was broken-hearted when she finished painting this hutch. No, not because she regretted painting it. Not because it had turned out badly. Nope, it was actually so lovely that she didn’t want to return it to the client who had asked her to paint it in the first place.
She considered running away with it to Mexico, but couldn’t fit it in her suitcase. She tried to disguise it, but her client saw right through the fake mustache and demanded that she hand it over. Then she pretended that she forgot how to speak English, but that only worked for a few seconds.
Finally, she gave in and let her client have her hutch back. Most of that story is false, except she really did love how it turned out and wished she could keep it!
Who could blame her? It’s so pretty! She used Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Typewriter on the body of the hutch and Grain Sack for the back, with only the faintest of distressing. You must check out Gilly’s blog at Colour Saturated Life to get an up-close look. The finish that she achieved here really is magical.

January 19, 2016 at 3:00 PMThough I adore most makeovers on here, it’s not often that I find myself coveting the furniture. But I am today!! I love that so much!!

January 19, 2016 at 11:22 PMI thought it was going to be some fancy-schmancy design thing painted all over it once a client was mentioned. You know, some carefully executed geometric schematic that required tons of taping off and lots of colors, or a delicate stencil applique, or even some Mary Engelbreit-like swirls going on. I get to the reveal and it’s iike, seriously, people PAY ya to do plain old paint? I mean, don’t get me wrong, it looks nice, and probably took hours to do, but it’s something the client could’ve done since there’s none of the above involved. Now I feel like I need to move to a house with a garage and hang out a shingle if people are so frightened of paintbrushes that they pay others to do simple stuff.

January 21, 2016 at 3:46 PMTo me, it’s the difference between going to a hairstylist and cutting my own hair. I’m sure I could do it (kinda, maybe) but I definitely wouldn’t get the same results that a professional would. Plus it’s about time for some people too. Would I rather clean my own house or pay a housekeeper to do it? (HOUSEKEEPER! Everytime!! Even though I only have a housekeeper in my dreams…) 😉
