Blue Your Mind

Remember how yesterday I was all “Oh, blue and white! It’s the BEST! It will never go out of style!!”

Well I bite my tongue, because Malorie’s mom had a very blue and white living room and she was ready for a change. Malorie, being the fantastic daughter she is, came over and spent two days transforming it into …

White/Light Blue Living Room Before 2

A blue and white living room! HaHA! I was never biting my tongue to begin with! I was right all along! Blue and white forevaaaaaa!!!!

Ahem.  Excuse me.  Anyway, as you can see, the reign of this coastal color combo will never fail. However, Malorie chose a much softer blue and anchored it with touches of gray, which give the room a decidedly more upscale look.

Then she paid some attention to the fireplace, which used to look a little bit like a fire hazard.

Her husband Vito worked some carpentry and masonry magic and now if fits the feel of the home perfectly.  I’ll admit, I’m kind of jealous of anyone with a handy spouse and the perks that come along with it.  I didn’t happen to marry a handyman. My husband is a high school principal. Perks include free pens.

One last thing Malorie wanted to give her mom was more storage, since this room is not super huge.  Vito utilized this empty space under the stairs by adding floating shelves.

Aren’t they stupid? Just kidding! That’s the jealousy talking. Of course they look great. Almost as great as a big ol’ cup of pens. Almost.

Much more to see on Malorie’s blog HomeWork Design Co.

Happy weekend!

I actually like the Before a lot, but the After is definitely better. I love blue and white. One might even say I’m a little obsessed. Those are the colors I’m using in my kitchen. I even took a personality test with categories based on colors, and I was a Blue-White.

I like the before too, but I agree the after is way better. I’ve been struggling with trying to figure out what’s not working in my house. I have a lot of things I like, but they don’t necessarily go together. In these pictures, I see walls I like, a chair I like, and a cool vintage flower stencil on some pretty wood stairs, but they’re not working together at all. The simplified, clean-lined update totally works! 🙂

I feel the same way sometimes! It’s all about figuring out what you like and editing out what you don’t and keeping it cohesive and it’s SO HARD sometimes!!

OMG! Malorie transformed the dog into a cushion??? NO!!!!!
I really like the softer blue tones now in the house but I just couldn’t bring myself to lean back on the poor old dog/cushion.

Great transformation! I especially love the fireplace. And is it just a lighting difference from picture to picture or did she actually whitewash that chair? It looks dated in the before and totally updated in the after. I’m pretty sure it is the same chair anyway.

Lindsey, my husband is not at all handy either (works in IT- side benefit- a lot of computers around that are just a little broken… this one’s battery does not hold a charge, another is missing the space bar), so anyway… I trained myself to be handy. It’s worked out beautifully. At times, I’ve admired the handy husband-wife duo who can actually work on projects together. But if he could do it, I probably never would have gotten into it and I love it. Not having a handy husband does not seem to hold you back at all, you have a beautiful house, you are very talented.

I like the after best but without the curtains. I like the clean look of just the blinds, but even so I would not say no if Malorie and Vito wanted to come and transform my drab brown and white and beige and white and ecru and white living space! 🙂

I’ve been giggling about the handy husband comments tonight. I do have a handy husband, and I love it, but I also have a severe lack of pens. So there are drawbacks.
