Rank and Tile

We had a minor medical emergency at our house last night when my daughter’s ear-piercing hole decided to split open all the way down through her earlobe. Oof, sorry if you were eating or something, I probably should have eased you into this topic.  Anyway, it just happened out of nowhere.  All of a sudden, ploop! Her earring was on the floor, front and back still together.

We super-glued it shut, but she will probably need stitches. I tell you this as a cautionary tale! Apparently it happens a lot. I wish I would have never had her ears pierced; they’ve been nothing but trouble.  So, if you are on the fence about piercing your kid’s ears, it’s just something to consider.

And now, happily,  here is something lovely for you to consider. A bathroom makeover with miles of tile!

Tile on the walls, tile in the tub, and a fantastic hexagon tile on the floor.  I love the choice of a floating vanity which shows off that much more of the floor.

Christine didn’t intend to gut this space, it all started with a simple window replacement.  But then the toilet seemed to be breaking weekly, and then the tub was crumbling, and next thing you know, a full-blown remodel was underway.

Looks stunning! Did you notice the built in niche/towel holder? That was made by her husband using wood from a 100 year old piano. Same with the mirror frame.  Such a cool detail. Get even more details on Christine’s blog Simple Moments.

Musta been something in the air – last night, around 10, my 12 year old son starts getting up from the couch to go to bed, jumps, shouts, “ow! OW!” and we realize he’s “found” a needle in the arm of the couch. Nobody has done any of that kind of hand sewing, we have no clue who put it there, but it BROKE OFF IN HIS HAND. We can’t see it, so off the the emergency room my hubby and he go! The doctor almost couldn’t get it out, didn’t want to mess with the tendon, started planning for surgery later in the week, but thank goodness, it finally came out, a whole half inch of needle, eye included. Poor kid!
That bathroom turned out gorgeous!! I love the hex tile and the towel holder/niche! I will head on over and take a closer look.

Ahhhhhhhh, YIKES! That’s terrible! Ugh poor kid! My sister once was playing on the floor, I think she was about 8 or 9, and a huge quilting needle hidden in the carpet went up through her knee. Only the eye was showing. Ugh, it makes me shudder just thinking about it.

What the?! I’ve never heard of such a thing. When I was 8 my mom let me get my ears pierced and as she was “turning” one of the earrings my 2nd night having them (as you’re supposed to do apparently) the earring popped right out. She tried for 20 minutes to get it back in but the hole closed up INSTANTLY and it hurt like crazy trying to shove the earring back in. Weirdest thing ever. So I got to have that ear re-pierced. Fun stuff.

    The bathroom floor is beautiful!

How old is your daughter? Is this common for all piercings regardless of age? Ew!

She’s 6 and has had them pierced for about a year. I don’t know what happened, it wasn’t anything like it got caught and ripped out, it just kind of stretched out until it opened all the way up.

I had my ears pierced when I was like 8. We had so much trouble with them that when it was time for them to come out they were so swollen and sore I only let Mom take one out. She had to wait for me to fall asleep to get the other. We let them close up and I didn’t get them redone until college. Even then they took longer than the recommended time to heal fully.

On another note the bathroom is gorgeous!
