You guys. National Limerick Day was yesterday, AND WE DIDN’T EVEN CELEBRATE.
I’m ashamed. Here’s a limerick about Better After reader Stephanie’s kitchen to make it up to you.
There once was a kitchen so dated,
Its cabinets and lighting were hated.
But a fresh coat of white,
and a new set of lights,
And Steph wondered why she had waited!
Here’s one more:
This design needs a pink slip
That octagon light is a trip.
But a tweak or two later,
from Steph the creator,
It’s no longer an ’80s spaceship!
You know how I love a good contest. So now it’s your turn! Leave a limerick in the comments and my favorite one will win a prize!

May 13, 2015 at 6:57 AMThe “before” looks clean and neat.
But overwhelmed by the color of wheat.
Put it down in the books
This one no longer looks
Like a dated surgical suite.

May 13, 2015 at 7:56 AMThere once was a kitchen so white,
and spacious and clean and bright,
had you seen it before,
it was hard to ignore,
that hideous overhead light.

May 13, 2015 at 8:09 AMThere once was a kitchen straight from the eighties
With a light that could’ve been a portal to Hades.
The island’s butcher block
Was nothing to mock
But wow, that new marble really impresses the ladies!

May 13, 2015 at 8:13 AMThere once was a gal not from Guam
Whose skills were surely aplomb
Spending much of her time
She removed all the grime
And now her home looks like the bomb!
Using the word “aplomb” should get some reward don’t you think? LOL

Like circus high flyers
Wow people, you got it just right!

May 13, 2015 at 8:32 AMThere once was a blogger named Lindsey
Who often was caught in a frenzy.
She scours the net looking high & low.
So that once a day she can brighten our way
With wonderful before and afters; Hooray!

May 13, 2015 at 9:31 AMMy house was loved but so old.
The kitchen was huge and cold.
We tore it all down
Built new from the ground
And now it is better than gold!

May 13, 2015 at 9:58 AMThat Linds from the blog Better After
Writes posts that cause us lots of laughter.
Chairs, tables, and dens
Were as ugly as sin
But she shows us their beauty thereafter.

May 13, 2015 at 10:23 AMIf décor on the cheap is your passion
‘Cause your pockets aren’t bloomin’ with cash-in
Find the blog Better After

May 13, 2015 at 10:48 AMWood grain is trendy it’s true
But this kitchen was staging a coup
So out the wood bounced
And with pride we announced:
Marble and paint to the rescue!

May 13, 2015 at 1:59 PMThere once was a blogger named Lindsey,
She gave more observations than Kinsey,
Always with a picture and a wee pithy joke,
From dinettes, to decks to houses damaged by smoke,
She’s all over DIY like ticks on a grizzly.

May 13, 2015 at 2:08 PMI cook and I slave all day.
Pots and Pans they get in my way.
Puppies under my feet
and husband kissing my cheek.
That pot is hot! Don’t get burned.
Deep breath, one day it will be my turn.

May 13, 2015 at 2:51 PMMy house is a blast from the past,
so ugly folks say “It’s aghast!”
With just a little paint and pride
I change the inside
and be free from the ugly at last!!!

May 13, 2015 at 3:37 PMThe shape of the ceiling is a fright,
With such an expansive beam of light.
The glow was so strong,
That it didn’t take long,
For it to disappear out of sight.

May 13, 2015 at 5:37 PMA tabby was drinking Martinis
While watching a short by Fellini
She purred with content
Yet next morn did lament:
“Who poured me so many Bellini’s?”
(Personally, I think such a beautiful new kitchen deserves a toast!)

May 13, 2015 at 7:27 PMThere once was a blog BetterAfter
It brings oohs and ahhhs and some laughter
The Befores are frightful
The Afters delightful
Because Lindsey is a hilarious post drafter.

May 13, 2015 at 7:36 PMStephanie’s kitchen was quite unappealing
It seemed to have a big hole in the ceiling
The wallpaper was horrid
the white hot space is now torrid
Love the red canister of tea from Darjeeling!
Bwahaha! Lovely makeover!

May 13, 2015 at 9:39 PMOh the woes of this outdated kitchen,
Had the homies hatin’ and dissin’
Now it’s coated in white,
Big, bold movie set lights
And the homies all quiet their bitchin’!!

May 14, 2015 at 6:59 AMSteph’s hearth was a blast from the 80’s
A great gathering place for the ladies
Now the rooms been revamped
The whole aura’s been amped
Time to fix up some steak & potatees.

May 14, 2015 at 7:14 AMAn upside-down boat in the ceiling
And plaid wallpaper (so unappealing)
Screamed out for a redo –
The result is a woo hoo
That has me applauding (and stealing)!

May 14, 2015 at 7:43 AMWhat’s wrong with those oak kitchen cab’nets?
Pure white kitchen craze – I’m not havin’ it.
When you’re aging like me
You will finally see
What was old becomes new so don’t rehab it!

May 14, 2015 at 9:42 AMRemodeling’s a whole lot of work
and I hope you don’t think I’m a jerk
Cause though I’ve got my club pants on
and I like to go dancin’
I would rather sling paint than go twerk!
LOVE that kitchen!!!

May 14, 2015 at 2:14 PMMy old kitchen was such a bore.
A room I would try to ignore!
Thanks to Pinterest, my teacher
And Linds, for this feature —
The “after” sure beats the “before”!
(And thanks for all the limericks and laughs. The comments are pretty great!)

May 14, 2015 at 4:50 PMWith function maintained, I am guessing…
A Kitchen wants “pep”, I’m professing.
So with dollars and time,
It emerged more sublime!
It is white and delightsome, expressing!

May 16, 2015 at 8:40 PMthe kitchen was a bore,
with zest and a hammer she tore.
