Most people like to take advantage of the fresh start of a new year by purging and decrapifying their homes. It just feels good. Out with the old!
But pay attention! Are you truly organizing, or just rearranging your junk? For instance: a new shoe-storage system is fantastic. A new shoe-storage system for shoes you haven’t even worn in the last year is a big fat waste of time and space. Don’t do it. Just let them go, man. You’ll feel so freeeeeeeee!
Check out how Kerby made better use of this closet by converting it into a bright, organized office space. No more shrine to unworn shoes. I bet she sighs with contentedness every time she walks by. I would!

January 6, 2015 at 1:19 PMIt looks like it was meant to be!! I’ve always wanted a closet office, to just have one dedicated space for this kind of stuff. Instead, our desks and computers and whatnot are in the living room…and sort of taking over the place, ha!

January 6, 2015 at 5:03 PMI love the new office space. It’s beautiful and much more functional than the shoe storage. One question, what’s under that cake dome? 🙂

January 9, 2015 at 1:50 PMHahah, I had to go back and look, and you’re right! There IS a cake dome in there! I’m guessing chocolate to reward oneself for getting work done. That’s why I have a box of chocolate hidden in my laundry room.

January 6, 2015 at 5:58 PMOk, I’ll bite….so she now walks around barefoot? Wish I had a walk-in office, then I could honestly say, “Hey! I’m coming out of the closet!” ….it’s the heat here in Oz….don’t blame me.

January 9, 2015 at 1:49 PMHahaha, I know the feeling. It’s in the 80s here today while the rest of the country is under a layer of ice. I still can’t get used to sweating in January. Actually, I can, and it’s the best! 😉

January 7, 2015 at 9:00 AMIt looks like this makeover was a piece of cake but if you go to the original blog you will find out that some deconstruction and construction was involved. Nice reuse of existing low-use space instead of adding on to the footprint of the house.
I was also wondering about what happened to the shoes. Did she really get rid of them or did she find another place to keep them?

January 7, 2015 at 1:41 PMI always say this “someday when I have a house..” because I don’t have any “unused” space in my apartment. Fabulous little area that is nicely tucked away while staying accessible.

January 7, 2015 at 2:03 PMGotta say, I did a happy dance when I saw this. Thanks for featuring me! To answer the shoe questions – No I do not walk around barefoot, my house has 4 closets of this size, so it was easy to move them into another closet. But I did donate a lot of unused/unworn shoes. Not a huge shoe girl.
