I see a boring door and I want to paint it black.

It’s time to pull out the LBDs and get ready for holiday party season! While nothing glams up a gal faster and easier than a little black dress, I’m actually talking about Little Black Doors.

That’s right, I am advocating for painting your doors black.  Right now.  Just don’t come looking for me if/when your husband freaks out.

But don’t worry! It will look fantastic and you’ll only wish you had done it sooner.  Don’t take my word for it, here’s an example from Erin at Red House Renovations who gave her foyer a quick and easy transformation with black paint.

As quick and easy as painting a banister around a ton of spindles is.  So … not all that quick.  But I love the look. It’s daring and traditional at the same time.   If my plan to “paint now, repent later” hasn’t convinced you, here’s more evidence from Thrifty Decor Chick, who has painted every door in her house black and has some great tips too.  Do it! And then come over and help me do it too!

We love our black doors! My husband is totally on board with it. It is also great for the door to the garage, which is always grungy.

Oh my goodness! Your front entry looks gorgeous! I’ve seen black interior doors before but never on the three paneled front door. It looks amazing! I bet your husband got over it real quick.

Yes! When I have the opportunity to paint a door I will definitely consider black. That looks so classy!

Are you sure it was quick and easy? It seems a lot more than black paint went into this… Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely looooooove the outcome!
But I think changing the wall color has a dramatic impact. As important as the door maybe?

    This looks great.

I think it’s important to note that they changed the whole color scheme, and added black accents to pull it together. I think it would not have come together as well if they only painted the door black. It would have worked with the tan wall color but it still would have been important to bring some black accents in to carry and balance the visual weight of the door.

I like black doors, but I definitely wouldn’t paint the sidelights.

Thanks for posting this Lindsey! We get so many compliments on our black doors. Yes, we also painted the walls, and are so happy with how it came out. Thanks again.

I love the black door. It looks great! I painted my girls’ bedroom doors with black chalkboard paint a year and a half ago and haven’t looked back since: http://theelmlife.com/2014/11/24/updated-bedroom-door-name-artwork/
