Aqua Eyefuls

Here’s something you may not know about me: I have terrible, terrible eyesight. Without glasses or contacts I can’t read anything farther than six inches away. I can’t drive. I can’t see how grimy my shower probably is. But don’t feel bad, because I’m getting LASIK next week! *high five high five high five* I’m so excited. *happy dancing* I’ve waited for YEARS to do it. I’m going to be able to SEE!  ALL the time! *celebratory skipping* I can hardly wait.

But in the meantime I have to stop wearing my contacts and start wearing my glasses, which are about eight years old and tremendously unattractive.  I pretty much hate wearing my glasses, which I’m sure is leftover trauma from a childhood spent looking like this:

me

Yes, that is me underneath those enormous spectacles and protective helmet of bangs. Speaking of being eight-years-old and tremendously unattractive …

But enough about me.  Let’s talk about makeovers.

Even without windshield-sized glasses, it’s easy to see that this dresser was in need of some correcting too. Nice finish, but a little on the boring side. (At least no one could accuse me and my bolo tie of that!)  Debbie at Painted Therapy dressed it up with a blue so bold that it looks like she painted the drawer fronts too, but nope! That’s the original finish, which complemented the paint color perfectly.

And Better After reader Lexie gave mixing her own chalk paint a shot, and her results were glorious! This formerly dreary dresser is now a vision in aqua, silver and white.

You’ll LOVE Lasik! I had it done 4 years ago, and there are still evenings when I’m super-tired and think I’ve got to take out my contacts. Then, I get all giddy remembering I don’t wear contacts any longer.
Thanks to Lasik, I can see how awesome all these makeovers are 🙂

Yes, you will LOVE Lasik. I had it done over 10 years ago. I don’t remember exactly how many years because I’ve been too busy enjoying not wearing glasses/contacts! I had to go without contacts, just like you and brave the coke bottle glasses for a while. SEE you on the other side!

Lucky! I’m so nearsighted I’m not even a good candidate for LASIK. I want the ICL, but it’s literally as expensive as a new car. :'(

Bummer! I was afraid I wouldn’t be too. They said my prescription was perfect, even with my wonky astigmatism, but my cornea is so thin they have to do it in a different way, called a PK. I’m guessing the ICL is the permanent lens thing? Yeah, that’s not cheap. 🙁

No Lasik for me, but we did have very similar 8 year old pictures .. the poofy/curly blonde hair and the giant glasses. I’m so glad styles have changed as I got older. I like the way I look with glasses, but it would be amazing to actually put on make-up without kissing the mirror at the same time.

Yep, that’s what I’ve been doing lately. Putting makeup on is much more fun when I’m not one inch away from the mirror and can’t see every last flaw!

Gorgeous makeovers today! I’m pretty sure we must have been using the same hairdresser back then because my hair looked almost identical, which is scary.

Loved the first makeover where stain and paint look great together. Those colors complement each other well. (Yes, I’m still pouting over the loss of the flawless original finish, but I’ll get over it.)

Congrats and best wishes for the LASIK. I hope everything goes quickly and smoothly and that you get the results you’re after.

My eyes were like yours. I had Lasik almost 15 years ago. I woke my husband up in the middle of the night a day later to tell him what time it was. He thought I was nuts, but I said “I can see the alarm clock!” It really is a life changer. The only thing I miss – at Christmastime when I had my contacts out and looked at the tree, all the lights kind of blurred together and looked really magical!
Good luck! I really enjoy your blog.

Thanks Barbara! I’m so excited. I was listing to my husband all the wonderful things I’ll be able to do, like take a nap without my contacts becoming glued to my eyes! And yes, see the alarm clock! I used to have this horrible one next to my bed and the numbers were three inches tall just so I could read them. I had to get rid of it because it was too ugly!

Such great makeovers on those dressers! One is a bit rustic and the other fancy and I love them!

I have worn glasses since second grade. I had a window time were I wore contacts and luckily that’s when I met my husband. 😉 I love your picture and the Better After frame it’s in. If I can find my second grade pic, I’ll post it. P.S. I LOVE a bolo tie and you rocked it.

Cutie pie! Reminds of me of my glasses as a kid but mine were pink! Good luck with lasik. I want it so bad. Something I gotta save up for.

Thanks so much for featuring my dresser! And I got Lasik 10 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. Since the 2nd grade was pawing at my nightstand for my glasses since I couldn’t see. Good luck!

I had lasik done back in 2003, best decision I ever made. Of course it came with a few pitfalls such as reaching automatically for the glasses to see the alarm clock for months afterwards upon waking having forgotten I could see now. I had one scary moment when after my eyes healed and I could see perfectly (living in Phoenix at the time) I jumped in the shower only to realize after adding shampoo to my hair that I had a scorpion in the tub with me. I would have been happy not to have seen that. 😉
