Here are some things that look awesome but aren’t sensible: White bedding. High heels. Two-seater sports cars.
I don’t have a two-seater, but I do have white bedding, and once in a while I even break out the high heels. Because the extra effort they require is worth it! Same thing with this fabulous bathroom makeover from Rachel.
Yes, an all glass shower surround is more work to keep clean than the previous frosted glass doors of un-attractiveness. Vessel-style sinks can be a pain. But neither one is as insensible as navigating the bathroom with your eyes closed because you can’t even bear the sight of it, see what I’m saying? I think you do.
See more from Rachel on her blog Chaos in the Condo.
TIP: The key to keeping those shower doors clean is a squeegee. The hard part is getting anyone else to actually use it. I’ve even made up a song at my house, entitled “It’s So Easy To Squeegee!” So far it has not been effective.

September 17, 2014 at 8:24 AMI love the re-do, but I also want to know how the new shower door opens.

September 17, 2014 at 9:05 AMIt’s a sliding door. You can see where the two panels overlap in the middle if you look closely.

September 17, 2014 at 11:41 AMI desperately need to see this! I have the identical sink, mirror, cabinet finish and hardware…http://beckwithstreasures.com/journal/2013/3/14/bathroom-makeover-on-the-cheap….and I am contemplating taking out the tub and going with just a shower. I LOVE visuals!!!! Awesome! Love the transformation (naturally) but so happy to see that a shower would indeed look great!

September 18, 2014 at 11:52 AMOoooh, yes, a full shower would look fantastic in there Beck! It already looks so sleek and fresh with what you’ve done so far, it would just open it up that much more!

September 17, 2014 at 1:02 PMI like a lot of the updates in this bathroom, but like you, Lindsey, I think some of these changes make the bathroom less practical (albeit more snazzy)-like taking out the bathtub to make a dedicated shower, when you can shower in a bathtub anytime you want. To be honest, I like shower curtains better than glass shower doors, because you can just take them down and throw them in the washing machine with they get scummy. They add a touch of color and softness too.
(I notice that your readers don’t critique the makeovers that you post, Lindsey. Am I being a troublemaker for posting what I hope is nothing more than gentle feedback? Just asking.)

September 18, 2014 at 11:50 AMHi Bee!
I welcome your feedback, you are always thoughtful and constructive! I would love to have more conversations in the comments about things like this, actually. 🙂

September 17, 2014 at 2:01 PMCan you Rain-X shower doors? My car windshield dries mostly spotless after a rain when I use the orange windshield wiper fluid. I wonder…

September 18, 2014 at 11:48 AMFunny you should ask, because I actually tried that in our new house. It didn’t seem to make a difference at all, I was kind of disappointed. Maybe I need a few layers of applications to really get it to work? Hmmm.

September 17, 2014 at 4:21 PMWow, what a makeover!! It’s just the cat’s meow. I love the little details like the coordinating bath mats & the picture over the toilet that really pull it all together.

September 17, 2014 at 6:59 PMThank you everyone for your kind feedback!!! The shower doors slide. While a bit of a pain to clean, they are SO worth it. We decided to get rid of the tub because it was really shallow, plus theres a bathtub in our 2nd bathroom if we really need it. Too bad there isn’t room for a separate tub!! The vessel sinks I was a bit worried about, but so far they’ve been awesome!

September 18, 2014 at 11:47 AMIt’s beautiful Rachel! I like the idea of a tub, but I can probably count on one hand the times I’ve actually used it in the last five years. I wouldn’t miss it either!

September 17, 2014 at 7:30 PMI’m with Bee – I prefer shower curtains – mostly because years ago I bought a shower curtain that matches my bedroom sheers and all my bathroom accessories. The new glass doors are a big improvement over the old ones, though. One thing I really don’t like are glass doors with a tub, because sometimes when my feet are sore at the end of a long day, I like to sit on the edge of the tub and soak them in cold water.
I think my favorite thing in this bathroom is the cobalt blue Blenko water bottle because I have one just like it in my living room. (I found it at a Salvation Army thrift store in Virginia for 1/5 of the price of a new one. Score!)

September 18, 2014 at 5:08 AMGorgeous! And you are witty as always. 🙂 hope the baby is doing better?

September 18, 2014 at 11:45 AMOh, thanks so much Amie. That really means a lot to me. 🙂 Baby is doing much better, he’s sitting right here giving me a gummy little smile. I was thinking how grateful I was for nurses and doctors and just modern medicine in general during the whole ordeal. Amazing that he could go from barely being able to breathe to his happy little self in just a few hours.

September 18, 2014 at 10:30 AMGrowing up there were 9 of us and one bathroom. I remember getting grounded because I locked the bathroom door while I was in the shower. We always had shower curtains for that reason. I am scarred for life now! I don’t think I could ever own just glass doors in fear of my family having to potty at the same time I’m in the shower.

September 18, 2014 at 11:42 AMOh wow! 9 people and one bathroom! No wonder you are scarred for life! I’d have double doors and triple locks!

September 18, 2014 at 2:07 PMThe tip our builder gave us for glass doors was to put RainX on them before you use it. I honestly don’t know if that’s safe or not, but it’s very effective.
