When someone is sad, we say they have ‘the blues.’ But I think we should change that phrase, because take a long hard look at the paint job Better After reader Chelsey did on her home and try to tell me that the blue is anywhere approaching sadness. My oh my, it most certainly is not! It’s a big bluebird of happiness sitting on the shoulder (of the street).
What we should really say when someone is sad is that they have ‘the browns.’ Actually, you know what, nevermind on that.

June 18, 2014 at 2:21 PMThat was hilarious, Lindsey. Pretty blue house. No longer has the browns.

June 18, 2014 at 2:37 PMI literally breathed a sigh of relief after seeing the second picture. Dark houses depress me 🙂

June 18, 2014 at 2:58 PMNot that unlike Before and After plastic surgery photos, it doesn’t hurt that the Before photo is shot on a cloudy, winter day, in which one can barely discern the color scheme. The After photo, on the other hand, was shot on a sunny summer day with full foliage and new landscaping. Definitely not a fair comparison. Some contrast added to the first color scheme, along with the landscaping, might have been equally effective.

June 18, 2014 at 4:48 PMStartling transformation! Who knew that beautiful house was sitting under all that brown. Not sure if a blue sky could have helped that dark shadow.

June 18, 2014 at 5:07 PMAmazing! What a huge improvement from a basic house to a house with personality!
I like how the dark house picture was taken in cloudy winter and the blue one in Spring with a lot more green; very fitting!

June 18, 2014 at 5:20 PMHA! The browns. You kill me.
I love how the white contrasts with the blue to show off the pretty trim details. They were totally lost in the previous, monochromatic scheme. Excellent update!

June 19, 2014 at 4:37 AMThat brown house would be dank and depressing even on the sunniest day! I cant get over how the color changed the entire curb appeal of the house. I love the color, too – not aqua, but not just standard blue – what is it?

June 19, 2014 at 8:21 AMLove the gorgeous blue and the white accents! What an improvement! I am so sick of seeing brown house after brown house go up. Entire subdivisions of brown. Snoooorre….I can’t imagine trying to give someone directions, “I’m the 23rd brown house on the right.”

June 20, 2014 at 6:30 AMIncredible makeover! I love the new color scheme and updated white trim. It really adds a lot of cheer! But I would like to see a “fairer” comparison cloudy fall day vs sunny late spring makes a huge difference! I will have to keep that in mind when selling/photographing my own house 😉

June 26, 2014 at 7:37 AMThe house looks so good. There actually is something called a Blue Bird of Happiness. They make them at Terra Studios in Arkansas. It’s an art studio that has the cutest gardens and pathways full of trolls and fairies. I went there when I was visiting my sister who lives in Bentonville. The little blue birds are so cute. I tried to put a link to their website for you but me no know how.(you can just google it) I highly recommend going there is you ever happen to find yourself in Arkansas.
