Odd-n-ends. That’s what I’ve got for you today. Cute and clever little projects that don’t really fit in anywhere else. (They are secretly my favorite kinds of projects. Anything that can be accomplished in less than an hour while I’m watching Jimmy Fallon is alright with me. PS: I’m just putting it out in the universe right now that my ultimate goal in life is to one day compete in a lip-sync battle with Jimmy Fallon. Just so the universe knows. Dream big, kids).
Also, I thought I would give you a quick recap of my month of Paleo dieting, because I know like … two of you might be wondering how it went. Answer: eh. It was fine. I didn’t hate it. I thought it would be harder than it was, because I’ve never ever tried any type of restrictive diet in my life, unless you count that one time that I tried to be a vegetarian but kept forgetting. I’d be like, halfway through a bag of beef jerky and then think, “Oh, yeah!”
So I didn’t really struggle with it, but I did get a little bored of what I was eating. That was my fault, there are tons of awesome Paleo recipe sources out there, and I just got lazy by the end. I also ended the month on a downer, I got pretty sick last week and just kind of felt down in the dumps in general, so I didn’t really end with a bang. More like a weary sigh. I lost about 8 pounds though, so I’ll call that a success! I do think I’ll keep it up for the most part, just not so hardcore. Mama needs her butter.
ANYWAY. Moving on. Here are some fun odd-n-ends, and you should probably do some yourself this weekend and send the pictures to meee!
Firstly: this pink mirror makeover from Shanna at Restoration Redoux. My daughter would go nuts for this. Such cute and easy decor!
Better After reader Teresa updated this little crate, and my eleven-year-old self wept, because the before would have matched my 1992 bedroom perfectly. I could have stashed all my Baby-Sitters Club books in there. My current self likes it much better now though. Fun fact: this entire makeover cost a cool $2.
Ok, so maybe this one took a little longer than an hour. You might need to find a good series on Netflix before you tackle reupholstering a vintage shampoo chair. First things first, you need to FIND a vintage shampoo chair. Good luck with that. Let’s just enjoy Dena’s work instead, more of which there is to see on her blog Hearts & Sharts.
This portrait of a palm tree in a pot might have been the saddest thing the thriftstore had to offer, but Katy at A Shade of Teal changed that in a jiffy by turning it into a burlap covered corkboard. Such a quick and gratifying project! Right now Wal-Mart has some wooden pushpins that would look super cute on a bulletin board such as this, just an FYI.
I just love these hip little planters that Rebecca made using dollar store pots. Before, they were more along the lines of something you’d give to a kindergarten teacher. If you hated her. But with a little chalky paint and some vinyl circle stencils, anyone would be happy to own one now! See the striped version she also made on her blog The Crafted Sparrow.
And here’s another one from Dena at Hearts and Sharts, who had a big pile of worthless china, and a big box of paint pens. So she put the two together, and … magic! Check out her entire plate gallery, you don’t want to miss it. Trust me. There’s a Tupac plate.
Last one! It’s so whimsical and fun! Lindsay at My Creative Days found a set of wooden salad bowls and turned them into … well just scroll down and see for yourself.
SO cute, right? And if you liked that, wait til you see her bowling ball caterpillar!
Happy weekend friends!

May 2, 2014 at 10:24 PMA very cute batch of odds and ends – I just adore those mushrooms and that wild shampoo chair! Thanks for the honest paleo review, too – hope you feel better soon. Your beef jerky comment made me laugh – you pretty much ALWAYS find a way to crack me up, ya know!

May 3, 2014 at 11:18 AMI will invite you over for a private lip-synch battle with Jimmy Fallon after he and I get married. Hey – you SAID I should dream big! :0)
What song would you do? Emma Stone was awesome.
Lindsey @ Better After
May 3, 2014 at 11:41 AMThat’s fine, you can marry Jimmy Fallon, and I will marry Justin Timberlake, and then we can be next door neighbors. Ha! (my husband would be so embarrassed for me if he read that!) Emma Stone was awesome, did you see Paul Rudd? That one was comedy gold! There are so many songs that would be fun, it’s hard to pick. Maybe a little vintage Jackson Five with “Blame it on the Boogie.” Or some Black Eyed Peas, and I’d make Jimmy do Fergie’s part. Why yes, I have thought about this way way too much.

May 5, 2014 at 12:18 PMI love the Jimmy Fallon lip-sync battles! I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt was my favorite…although John Krasinski singing “Teenage Dream” and “I’ll Make Love To You” made me swoon. I think I’d do an 80s song and then a rap song (maybe Big Poppa)…yeah, I’ve thought about this too much.
Lindsey @ Better After
May 5, 2014 at 11:53 PMJoseph Gordon-Levitt was hilarious! Now I really just want to have a big lip-sync party for my birthday or something. Less painful than karaoke!

May 5, 2014 at 1:09 PMLove the little mirror redo, and where oh where can I get a shampoo chair? It’s fabulous — would be so great on my porch. Love the before and afters.
BTW Lindsey, we’re not privy to the reasons you tried Paleo, but I’m glad you got something out of it. You don’t have to give up dairy to be healthy — google Primal or LCHF. I think giving up the grains is the key. We do low carb here but lots of full-on fatty dairy and daily bacon doses. We’re healthier and have the numbers to prove it. Fat is your friend. 🙂 Good luck!
Lindsey @ Better After
May 5, 2014 at 11:52 PMHmmm, very interesting, I’ll have to look into it. I honestly didn’t really miss grains, other than how convenient they are. And my blood sugar never crashed all month either, which it occasionally does. I was trying to convince my husband that bacon can be healthy, but he wouldn’t believe me!

May 6, 2014 at 6:12 AMI’m living for that yarn in the second makeover and that shampoo chair. I collect vintage dishes so I cried a little at that makeover, but they’re not mine! Same with the wooden salad bowls. I’m always on the hunt for those. 🙂

May 6, 2014 at 8:02 AMI was one of the two wondering how your Paleofest was going, thanks for the update. And I’m sorry to break this to you, but Mr. JT is off the market…I already called dibs on him ages ago. And I have the “Mrs. Timberlake” makeup bag, the “I Justin” necklace, and picture on my dresser to prove it. And yes, I embarrass my husband and teenage children with my love of all things JT.
Lindsey @ Better After
May 6, 2014 at 11:32 AMHa! That is hilarious! I think I need to see a picture of this picture on your dresser. I guess you can have JT, because that is some hardcore devotion, and I will settle for Tim Riggins of Friday Night Lights. I had a custom debit card made with his picture on it, which also embarrasses my husband!
