Guess what I’m doing today? Glucose test! Oh man, it is the worst. If you’ve never had one, here’s the scoop: you start off fasting for 8 hours, then sit around in a doctor’s office for what feels like half a day, getting your blood drawn every hour on the hour, after drinking a unholy amount of pure glucose laughably disguised as ‘orange soda.’
I really don’t know why they need to test me, I can tell them exactly what will happen. I will start shaking by hour one, be nearly incoherent by hour two, and end up slumped in a corner, twitching and drooling on the waiting room floor by the end. Glucose and I aren’t friends.
So, here are a couple of cute side table makeovers to distract us all. First, a fun metallic redo by Liz at Smart Girls DIY. Looks so cool with her birch tree wallpaper!
And Dani at Painting Sunny just added a tiny bit of pink to this table and bumped up the wood finish with a deeper stain. Subtle and super. Check out her blog for more.

And stay tuned to see how much gibberish I start posting on social media when the glucose gets ahold of my bloodstream!

November 14, 2013 at 10:00 AMOhh man, that’s one thing that makes me happy that my pancreas doesn’t work (I’m a type 1 diabetic already) I never had to do a glucose tolerance test! That and I got to see my babies via ultrasound much more often 🙂 Love looking n the bright side. Hope it goes smoothly!

November 14, 2013 at 10:32 AMI’m feelin’ your pain!!!!! That was the one experience from my first pregnancy that made me say I would NEVER get pregnant again. It involved being on the toilet and vomiting at the same time. I have never been so miserable. Thankfully though, the memory faded a bit and I did have another baby… but I got out of the glucose tolerance test the 2nd time:)

November 14, 2013 at 5:04 PMHaha, my doctor doesn’t require fasting! I didn’t mind the fruit punch flavor, although it was weirdly slimy. The worst part was the tech screwing up the stick. I cried the whole way home and my arm was bruised for weeks.

November 19, 2013 at 2:37 PMOh my gosh! Thank you so much to featuring me! Best.Day.Ever. I read every one of your posts, and if I hadn’t been feeling kind of icky this past week I wouldn’t have missed this one until now! So exciting, you made my day Lindsey. 🙂

January 5, 2014 at 10:02 AMOh boy, I don’t know if you want to hear this now that it’s over, but – there is an alternative. The new diabetic glucose self-testers are pretty much painless to use and record your results. Suggest to your OB that you self-monitor your normal eating patterns for a few days and bring in the monitor to review/download. If the results are normal, that should eliminate the need for this miserable experience.
