I love a good exterior redo, and Kathryn’s at Makin’ It In Memphis doesn’t disappoint. I love the new door, the new pillars, the new window, the new porch swing, the new paint color, and even the new bushes!
Because what is there to love about juniper? Not a lot. Juniper, you are officially my least favorite plant. (Well, I guess there are worse ones. Like poison ivy and hemlock and the Giant Pitcher Plant (google it, yikes), but you are still on the list).
But back to Kathryn’s makeover! After some trial and error with the pillars, she finally figured out the perfect placement and proportion. Don’t you love how open it looks now without all the wrought iron railing? Me too.

November 25, 2013 at 6:37 PMThe Before pic has all the things a home owner could possibly want, I mean, Come ON! Who doesn’t love tiles falling off one end, the heavy iron work, the slippy concrete path with the step just made for tripping on after a night out on the town, or the piece de resitance, (say it in French it sounds better out loud) the shark jaw brick edging ready for your knee when you fall over the concrete step in the dark! What’s NOT to love? Ok, you no like? Then there’s just no pleasing anyone, is there? 😉

November 26, 2013 at 7:07 AMI love this update! Pillars always make a house look so much more elegant. John & Sherry from Young House Love did this on their old house, and I loved it!!

December 16, 2013 at 12:27 PMI love this! We’re sort of house hunting and I’ve seen these types of disasters and immediately thought, “Ugh. That’s terrible. How could we ever fix it?”
