This buffet had a lot going for it. Maybe too much. You know how they say that after you get dressed, you should take a look in the mirror and remove one accessory? Poor little buffet. No one ever taught her that. Carvings, appliques, routered details, ornate pulls, contrasting wood grains, woah. It needed a “Honey. Let’s take it down a notch.”
Reeves was happy to help tone her down with simple black and a set of outrageously awesome oversized glass knobs that do all the talking. Beautiful! See more at The Weathered Door.

November 21, 2013 at 8:22 AMThat after is gorgeous! I want it! I look at Craigslist for stuff like this, but I never find it. I need to go to estate sales, I guess. Anyway…great job!

November 21, 2013 at 11:45 AMI generally like paint, but sometimes seeing the beauty of wood disappear is painful. What beautiful grain and colour this had….

November 21, 2013 at 12:19 PMJust gorgeous! Maybe some of the details could have been saved, a la an LBD with diamond studs? Although maybe the knobs could be considered the diamonds…
At any rate, it’s still beautiful!

November 21, 2013 at 1:23 PMI really think paint overs is the only way to update most “antique” furniture, so I loved the black dresser redo. However anytime I see a painted mid century modern piece painted I have a panic attack. I mean geez, its already modern!

November 21, 2013 at 1:36 PMOh that is just beautiful!! What a great transformation! I think I would’ve walked right by that “before” piece if I had seen it for sale. I think it’s great that some people have vision like that! 🙂

November 24, 2013 at 6:57 AMSeriously? This is like putting carpet on a beautiful wood floor.

November 25, 2013 at 10:25 PMIn the before, the wood grain, although beautiful, was competing with the elegant lines in the detailing of the dresser. The paint really allows you to see the art and craft of creating the cabinet itself. Beautifully done!

November 28, 2013 at 7:27 PMCompeting with the elegant lines?? It was exquisite before. Painting it black is just tragic! Listen, I am fond of painted furniture but sometimes I think it is just a fad. In 20 years this will end up in the Museum of Interior Desecrations.
