This outdoor sofa had weathered as much abuse as the outdoors can dish out, leaving it grungy, faded and sad. Megan’s vision was to restain the wood and recover the cushions. But! Once she gave them a good scrub-down, she discovered that they were in excellent shape, and made with the perfect material for outdoor use.
But they were so … beige. Then she had another vision. A vision of love. No, wait, I’m thinking of Mariah Carey. Megan’s vision was of white spray paint. Not just any old spray paint, however, she used specialized paint made specifically for vinyl, and she found it at her local auto store.
She reports: “This is definitely a win for spray painting vinyl cushions. These seats have had many bum tests with no scratches or paint coming up.” Awesome! See it on her blog Rappsody in Rooms.

October 1, 2013 at 6:20 PMThat darker stain did the trick and I never would have thought of spray painting vinyl seats. I’ll remember that one.

October 1, 2013 at 8:11 PMI am amazed at what she did with that sofa. It’s actually a made in America, This End Up product. This was part of a line of furniture which were originally made from shipping crates, hence the name. Very popular in the 80’s and 90’s and sold in mall stores, catalog and factory. She did a great job staining the wood. I have not seen this done successfully. And I love the painted cushions. Love your blog, thanks for sharing.
