I tell my husband all the time that I am a ‘form over function’ kind of girl. This means that he will not find a paper towel holder on our kitchen counters, I will probably hide his stacks of paperwork, and the blender has to stay out of sight even though we use it everyday. I just don’t like to look at that stuff! I would probably slipcover the fridge if I could.
That’s why the first thing I noticed about Susan’s old bathroom here wasn’t the punch-in-the-face wall color the previous owners had chosen, but those crazy towel holders! At least put them on a wall not facing the door, where they’re the first thing you see. It’s worth the extra inches of reach! The colors … the towel rings … I feel like I’m being charged by an angry bull.
But Susan soothed my troubled mind by replacing the them altogether with a lovely basketful of towels next to the tub. Oh, and the rest of the bathroom looks pretty darn amazing too. See more on Susan’s blog Living Rich on Less.

September 17, 2013 at 10:53 AMWhat a gorgeous redo! In the house we just purchased, all the towel bars in every bathroom were hung directly above the toilet – and I mean, inches above the toilet. What were the builders thinking! Needless to say, we removed them immediately.

September 17, 2013 at 7:02 PMIn my house the towels in the basket would probably end up with huntsman spiders (I live in Australia) or the cat would pee on them, or worse. Actually, I don’t know what’s worse, finding a freaking great hairy legged spider in my towel or a kitty kat dropping…… Very nice re-do though!

September 17, 2013 at 11:15 PMWhere to hang towels so they dry is going to be a problem in any tiny bath. The makeover is beautiful (love the shutters!), but I too wouldn’t like towels on the floor. The previous owner thought they had a clever solution, but obviously went too far in the function over form department.
I’d go nutso if I had to bring out of hiding an appliance I use every day. I give you credit!
