This before chair is very … unique. So much interesting … artwork? Really quite … Van-Gogh-ish? OK, fine, it’s just ugly. It’s so bad, it’s awesome. It makes me LLOL (literally laugh out loud) everytime I look at it. In what universe was it decided that blue velvet upholstery would pair fabulously with 3D craft paint and glitter? This one, apparently.
Better After reader Lori reluctantly tackled this challenging chair after her daughter discovered it in a dumpster and dragged it home. She had an impossible time trying to sand away that paint job, so she stripped it instead, added fence finials to the front feet which were mysteriously three inches shorter than the back feet, and painted the frame a taupe-y gray. My favorite part: the new cushion she made to replace the formerly insufficient cushion. Easier on the back. And WAY easier on the eyes.

February 6, 2013 at 8:51 AMThat chair takes the cake, it is simply the oddest chair I have ever seen. But what a transformation. Great job.

February 6, 2013 at 4:46 PMThanks fo featuring my hideous chair makeover and for all the nice comments! And Marcia, since the chair was relegated to the dumpster, I don’t think the “artist” in question was too sad to see it go. 😉

February 6, 2013 at 1:52 PMI can’t help but think that someone who painted that chair in its “before” picture is somewhat sad to see that their artwork didn’t make the grade, but I hope they appreciate the excellent recovery of a real gem!

February 6, 2013 at 10:26 PMWow! This is a sort of quirky little chair but it looks SO good in its “after” look 🙂
I cannot imagine me dragging home the little ugly ‘before’ beast. I mean, I’m not sure I would have had the fortitude to take on that project.;-)
Excellent redo Lori!

February 7, 2013 at 3:59 AMOh my garsh. That chair is totally an old lady with a huge rear and a tiny head. (who moved up in society with a makeover). Seriously, start to look at furniture as people. It’s really really funny. Or maybe I’m just unbelievably odd.
