Hey friends, I’ve got a great giveaway lined up for you today: $50 towards any stencil of your choice at from Cutting Edge Stencils!
If you think stencils aren’t for you, think again pardner, because they’ve got something for every style. Everything from graceful damask to funky and tribal, geometric, floral, you name it. Plus they recently added a ton of new stencils designs that I’d love to get my hands on, like the herringbone design below.
I love the rug stenciling idea, so I thought I’d give it a shot when they sent me the Entwined Allover Stencil to try.
Before, you can see my living room is a bit … blah. I know. Be kind. I’m still trying to make friends with color. I’m taking baby steps with gold.
So I picked up some metallic gold spray paint at Michael’s, hauled my rug out to the garage, and spent the day in 20 minute increments, taping off the stencil, spraying it, waiting for it to dry, and doing it again.
I could have used a spray adhesive to stick the stencil firmly to the rug, but I didn’t know if that would leave some kind of residue, so I simply weighed it down with little rocks and various items from the garage. Matt is thrilled that his socket wrenches are now gold.
And here we are today! I think it turned out nicely. The only bummer was that gold spray paint doesn’t really look very gold on fabric. More like a bronzy brown. Boo. But the stencil held up like a champ, and worked like a charm, and will be passed along to my sister who wants to do the same thing on her rug! (It’s the IKEA Erslev, if you’re curious, the rug of choice for rug-painters all over the blogosphere! Bonus, it’s the same texture on the other side, so if I want, I can flip it over to the plain side, and now it’s like two rugs in one!)
Enter to win $50 toward any stencil of your choice now!

January 8, 2013 at 5:24 AMGreat work; great comments, as usual. I’m planning to use a stencil on my refinished hardwood kitchen floor. The boards are in good shape, but spots are stained green from water seepage under the 3 ugly layers of linoleum I ripped out. The stencil will allow the stained wood to show through, thereby keeping a smooth visual transition from the other hardwood rooms, but distract from the mis-colored spots in the corners = a stencil will be the perfect solution.

January 8, 2013 at 2:41 AMI LOVE the animal print stencil, but I would probably lean toward picking a herringbone stencil (gotta compromise with the hubs on a few things!!).

If I were picking a stencil for an upcoming project, it may have to be the allover Chevron to simulate waves in my tween son’s bedroom.

January 8, 2013 at 5:28 AMLove how a stencil allows you to add color (gold) and keep your theme (white) at the same time.

January 8, 2013 at 8:08 PMI just moved into a new home and we got water damage from the Sandy storm which leads me to have to repaint the whole walk in closet. So I got the idea to finally take on of my pintrest images and try to redo this in my walk in. I’ve been gauking at everyone’s work on all the blogs and over on the pintrest so I would love to win this stencil to see if I have the patient to achieve such a beautiful look in my walk in. The roof is fixed now it’s time to make it beautiful!
