Fired Up!

When Wendy’s husband suggested a little ‘pole’ action to spice things up, she reluctantly agreed. Not like that, pervs.  I’m talking about the pole in this this fireman-themed bookcase!  Wendy scored this bookcase for a mere $10 on Craigslist and knew it would be the perfect place for her one-year-old son’s beloved fire-trucks.
So she painted it red, glazed it and added the mod-podged plaque, but it was still missing something.  Her husband (who just happens to be a fireman) talked her in to adding the pole, and the whole look came together!  It’s simply a wooden dowel primed black and painted a metallic gold.  Looks fantastic.

The pole cuts the shelf length in half- the long fire trucks will no longer fit!

Sooo cute and unique. As imaginative as Wendy and her husband are, I am sure they will find a cute way to display the larger fire trucks.

That is so cute! Gets me thinking on making something like that but as a train station. My youngest is very much into trains.

‘Though the shelf looks nice, the longer fire trucks don’t fit any longer. Pity.

Thanks for featuring our fun little project!!! I love seeing it in my boy’s room every day and he seems to love it.

@decoguy, my husband drilled a hole through the shelves.

For others who are worried about the bigger trucks…I have 2 of these bookshelves, one for toys and such in the basement and this one is for…shhh, books! 🙂 So the pole is a perfect addition to be decorative and used as a book end for floppy books.

That’s good it will be for books. It is so super cute and such a great idea…perfect colors too. But the red firetruck disappeared against the red paint. I’m glad you have two ways to display this great bookcase and your fun firetrucks!
