Raise your hand if you are totally intimidated by the thought of sewing your own slipcovers. I know I am. So many times I’ve looked longingly at my monstrous sectional and dreamed of someday having enough guts to cover its brown microfiber with something actually attractive.
Does that sound familiar? Well, help is on the way! Shelley from Custom Slipcovers by Shelley, AKA the guru goddess of slipcovers, has made an instructional DVD, and she’s giving one away!
Her DVD spells out all the steps of how to successfully create slipcovers with your own two hands! (And sewing machine and all that stuff, but you knew that). She makes it seem *gasp* SIMPLE! And get this: FUN!
Shelley has been making slipcovers for over ten years, so she knows all the tips and tricks of the trade. What started as a hobby has turned into a thriving business, so much so that she has had to hire additional seamstresses. Not only that, she has single-handedly paid off her basement, cars, and HOUSE with the profits from her slipcovers. Wowza.
She says, “If you want to learn to make slipcovers to redecorate on a budget, or
if you want to make some extra money, learning the art of slipcovering is
an invaluable tool and skill. If you love fabric and decorating and have
some sewing skills, you will become obsessed with the possibilities of
what you can do with an ugly piece of furniture.”

Shelley also recently came out with an ebook called Pillow Talk, which features 22 pages of step-by-step instructions with
pictures and tips. Learn to sew all the pillow styles shown in the picture:

May 12, 2012 at 11:52 AMI have 2 wingback chairs, 3 sofas and an ottoman that I intend to slipcover this summer (1/2 of them Craigslist finds – woohoo!) I’ve even bought all the fabric already, but it’s something I’ve never done before so I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. See, that kitchen of mine you featured a while back, the one that opened it up to the rest of the downstairs, well, then it didn’t match the rest of the house! So, you know, I absolutely couldn’t have that, so I decided to redecorate all the adjoining rooms. On the budget I had leftover after the kitchen. Meaning zilch. I’m in way over my head! Winning that DVD would be really, really, really well-timed 🙂
