Meg recently restored this “kitchen dresser,” as she likes to call it, and I guess I’ll call it that too, because the only other words I could think of were “hutchy thing.” The previous owner had also planned to restore it, but never found the time, and over the years it just became a beaten up place to store tools instead. Admitting defeat, he sold it to Meg, who wasted no time getting back in fighting shape! It looks fantastic, I love the contrasting hinges and hardware. Check out her blog Meg and Mum’s to take a peek inside. True story: it’s lined with Vegemite fabric!

January 26, 2012 at 9:40 PMThat could be right, but I’m pretty sure Hoosier cabinets have some sort of counter space either built-in or expandable…

January 27, 2012 at 2:47 AMThanks so much for the feature Lindsey! In Australia these things are referred to as a “kitchen dresser” or “meat safe/food safe”. They are quite hard to get hold of as they are really old and no longer made. The ones with the bench top, cupboard or drawers underneath and cupboards or shelves up the top are referred to as “hutches”. Hope that clears things up! 😀

January 27, 2012 at 3:49 AMI don’t normally comment, and I normally think wow, that is so neat. But THIS post, O.M.G. I have serious envy!! What a great piece. It’s exactly what I have been looking for, and sad to hear they’re hard to come by!! Wow. Great job to the person that refinished it!! So impressed.
