When I think about you…

We all know how spray paint can fix up ugly junk, but did you know it can save you from having nightmares too?  Because that’s what these creepy teddy bear canisters are giving me.  I could maybe understand something like this in a baby’s bedroom, many many years ago when supposedly this kind of thing was … cool? *shudder*  But even then, in a KITCHEN?  Which is where I assume most canisters like this belong?  I am scared. And the bears look like they are touching themselves.  Double creepy.

So anyway, hooray for spray paint and jute!  They look SO much better. And chaste! From Caitlin at Riparata.

Awesome fix! Jute is an super touch. I’m with you, not sure why anyone would have teddy bear kitchen canisters, even if they had a ‘country’ style house. Too weird.

Arrgh! Now I’ve got that song stuck in my head!!

I have thought about painting my canisters. I’ve been worrying about how well the paint would adhere, though. These look great!

AAAAGH! My brother and sister in law had those very same canisters in their house when they first got married. They are ATROCIOUS. I thought I would never have to see them again. I think my eyes are bleeding.

I had this set and I still use the plates. Atrocious, touching themselves, their little arms don’t even reach. OMG you people. Rude much? It’s one thing to talk about how something can be improved and another to bash something that someone else may like. Honestly I am offended by each of your nasty comments and I would be even if I had never owned my cute little teddy bear canisters.

    Hey… Caitlin here.

The spray paint is holding up well. I actually use them for my flour, sugar, coffee, and kosher salt, so they’re doing well in the kitchen. I’m not sure if the primer helped or hindered though….

Wait a second, and slow the roll…is that Mrs. Groovy up there for real? Or is that someone just having fun with us. ‘Cause really? Look, we just gots to call a spade a spade and those canisters were tragical in every way. Ugly and tasteless, even in the 80’s. But, let’s not get our panties in a twist. There have been plenty of things I thought were ugly that others LOVED, and vice versa. Anyway….relax, that’s all I’m sayin. Oh, and also, GREAT makeover! I LURVE me some spray paint!

I think a chunky rectangle of chalkboard paint on each of these with the chalk description of the contents would be the perfect finishing touch! Love this idea!

I saw this post referenced in the latest post and I had to come back and comment – oh those hideous bear canisters – someone mentioned they seemed 80’s, they actually aren’t they were from the 90’s, mid to late 90’s. I know this because these were the cannisters my parents had in their kitchen when I was in high school, they even had matching plates and cups.

I will have to forward this post on to my mom as I’m sure somewhere in storage she still has them, maybe she could dust them off and repurpose them 😀
