You and I and all the wood purists out there can agree on this one, I think: Woah. That shiz was in bad shape.
Christina found this desk free online from Freecycle (am I the only one who cannot get the hang of that? By the time I get any updates in my email, everything has been taken days ago. Hrm.)
Anyway, she obviously put a lot of work into it, but you would never know that she spent hardly any cash! Thanks to a few freebies, this whole project cost her $2.97! If there was a record, I think that’s a new one. Check it out on her blog Christina’s Adventures.

I wish I could get on freecycle but every time I try and sign up in my area I get denied. Not sure if its operational. Do other areas use yahoo groups for freecycle?

January 11, 2011 at 9:40 PMNow THAT’S whatg I’m talkin about. Gorgeous makeover.
And maybe it’s just me, but freecycle sometimes just sort of creeps me out. Furthermore, why wouldn’t someone try to sell that on Craigslist? Wierd.

January 11, 2011 at 11:23 PMTHANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the kind words and for featuring my desk 🙂 Made my day so happy!!
For all you people who are wary of Freecycle…I understand. Seriously. People post some WEIRD stuff on there! BUT…I did get some great pints & gallons of paint for FREE…plus a wonderful new printer…and this desk! So I have to say the “pros” outweigh the “cons” for me!
Thanks so much again!!! 🙂

January 12, 2011 at 3:24 AMWow that turned out great! I have a desk a lot like that one and covered all in fabric. You can see it at: http://renewredo.blogspot.com/2010/09/fabric-vanity-desk-project.html
But… I love this painted look.

January 12, 2011 at 8:00 PMLove the “after” on this piece! Very classy and muy muy creativo! (I’m sure that’s a made up word) 🙂
But anyway, Yea, Freecycle ROCKS over here in Northern CA. where I am….you do have to join the Yahoo Group and here’s the key tip:
Opt for their DAILY DIGEST, and you’ll get all the posts daily, hourly actually. Sometimes you have to be “on it” about checking those emails. And in today’s world with internet on cell phones, people are QUICK!! But, if you have it like that on your cell phone you can be too! GOOD LUCK ladies, and happy freecycling!
And yes….if you really want something….post a wanted ad! People are VERY generous and it’s amazing what you get when you GIVE too! 🙂
