One thing I miss about my old house is that the laundry room was upstairs, near the bedrooms. Doesn’t that make sense? In our new house, the laundry room is a tiny little room you have to walk through to get in or out of the garage. It’s nowhere near the bedrooms, which is where the closets are, which is where our clothes live. I often think I would like to have my washer and dryer IN my closet. That makes the most sense of all.
But I’m not in charge of such things, and so rooms like Tanya’s exist, which is not only a laundry room, but also a direct path to the guest bathroom and adjacent to the kitchen. Probability of guests catching a glimpse of your dirty laundrythings: HIGH. But not now! She has masterfully averted unwanted attention with a set of stylish curtains attached to the ceiling for maximum hideyness. Plus they are just really darn good looking.
A fresh coat of white paint brightened up the space too, and you can see all the details on her blog Dans le Townhouse.

Our washer and dryer are in the walk-in closet to the bedroom. It’s a great placement for sure! However, the washer and dryer take up a lot of room that could be used for more shoes. It’s a trade-off 😉

June 16, 2014 at 9:38 AMGrowing up, our laundry room was the entry to the garage, but now our washer and dryer are actually IN the garage. But it’s not all bad; it was nbd when our washer started leaking, because it’s outside on concrete, the dryer doesn’t heat up the house, and if I hang things to dry it happens almost instantly.

June 16, 2014 at 12:58 PMHideyness!!!!!! I love it! Best word of the day ever! What is it about homebuilders in Arizona thinking that the best place to do your laundry is between the kitchen and the garage? Unless possibly you can train your husband to strip down on his way into the house and throw his stuff directly into the washer.

June 17, 2014 at 12:14 AMHahahaha, maybe that’s what we were supposed to be doing all along! I actually have an aunt who put a shower literally steps away from the back door when she built her house, specifically for her husband to use when he came home. Granted, he is a rancher, but still … not a bad idea.

June 16, 2014 at 7:24 PMWhen I lived in Chandler, my laundry area was in that room between the garage and the family room, and I didn’t mind that at all. When I lived in Tempe, The W&D hookups were in the garage, which was fine in the winter but unbearable in the summer. I thought that was the worst until I moved to my present house, in which the laundry room was not only un-air conditioned, but also only accessible via a door in the back yard. Fortunately I was able to fix that by removing a teeny little wall.
This is a really nice laundry room makeover. I was especially interested in the curtain because I plan on making curtains for my laundry room to hide the water heater and space under the sink.
