What do you get when you buy a pair of worthless wicker chairs from a thrift store?
If you said ‘Disproving stares from your husband,’ you are correct, but what else?
‘Heavy sighs and eye rolls?’
Yes, but no. You’re on the wrong train of thought. Here’s a hint: you remove the worthless wicker part and add some boards instead!
Any guesses?
No?
Well, just take a look at what Better After reader Lori created and then maybe you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Oh yeah, you made a super cool bench out of those worthless chairs. Who’s rolling their eyes now, huh? That’s right, NO ONE!

Also, that bench is so my style! I am probably going to spend my whole Saturday going to every thrift store in town.

May 14, 2014 at 8:47 AMOh, what memories … I had those exact chairs back in 1985 and thought I was stylin’. I never would have thought to combine two to make a fabulous bench. Very impressive and so creative!

May 14, 2014 at 10:21 AMI have not been a fan of the trend to take two chairs and make them into a bench because usually the bench looks stupid and uncomfortable.
THIS chair-into-bench transformation is cool though! Good work taking something dated, tacky, and broken, and making it into something to love.

May 14, 2014 at 11:18 AMJust want to say if they were vintage Marcel Breuer chairs they were worth a few hundred dollars a chair. That said very creative idea if they were just cheap knock-offs.

May 14, 2014 at 11:29 AMI don’t particularly love this one, but more significantly, I’m with Roseann – I sure hope these are cheap knockoffs!

May 14, 2014 at 11:44 AMDitto other comments about the Breuer chairs, a design classic–and surprisingly comfortable. I LOVE the look of the bench, but my, if those were originals…. Likely not, though; knock-offs abounded. Huge points for creative thinking and execution in this ‘after.’

May 14, 2014 at 2:44 PMDude. I have those cheap knockoff chairs. More importantly, I have the frames, cause the seats were grody and husband already took them apart to chuck into the garbage can. And more importantly… I NEED A BENCH! What!

May 14, 2014 at 6:51 PMI’m with Roseann…I actually physically cringed when I saw the after! I really, really hope that 2 Breuer chairs weren’t butchered for that when they could have just been re-caned and lasted for another 40 comfortable years! (I grew up sitting on Breuer chairs and they are now in my dining room. So gorgeous and incredibly comfortable.)
