Why is it that people in the olden days had such incredible handwriting compared to us now? I have an old Bible that belonged to my great-grandpa, and he wrote his name in it, like, five times, so I’m pretty sure he was just doodling at that point, and it still looks fancy enough to be a wedding invitation. My grandpa was the principal of a high school, and his handwriting was so nice they had him fill out all the diplomas every year. My handwriting looks like something you’d expect from a blindfolded six-year-old.
That’s probably why I’m always a fan of anything that incorporates script, like this little ottoman from Beck at Beckwith’s Treasures. And hey, anything would have been a step up from that old fabric, even MY handwriting! No, too far.
But tell that fancy print to moooove over, because this next project was going super-simple. Katie put the insanely busy farm-scene-fabric on her settee out to pasture in exchange for an oatmeal linen slipcover accented with box pleats for a bit of flare. From a total ‘don’t’ to a cock-a-doodle-DO! See it on her blog The Sewing Nerd.

May 29, 2013 at 6:53 PMHahaha! That is hilarious. I say you just rock that vest, and rock it hard! Or find a similar settee and sit on it while wearing your vest and jump out and scare people who won’t even know you’re there!

May 29, 2013 at 5:19 PMRemember when tapestry vests were a fashion must have? I seriously made myself one out of that busy farm scene fabric. Seriously. I’m so glad those days are gone.

May 29, 2013 at 5:22 PMWAIT… I went and checked the old “dress clothes” that have been in the basement storage closet in zippered garment bags. Get this… I still have that VEST!!!
So what do we do for the AFTER on this hideous thing?

May 30, 2013 at 1:28 PMI love this blog – we are shortly emigrating from near London to somewhere in Aus, taking very little in the way of furniture – I shall be taking loads of active inspiration from here! It’s great to get a laugh as well as some eye candy!x
