Tuft toots.

Coffee tables are nice and all, but I don’t drink coffee, nor do I allow open containers of beverages to occupy the furniture in my living room, so sometimes I ask myself, “what the heck is the point?”  I mean, sure a coffee table is usually necessary for the living room just to not look weird, but you know what I would like better?  Something soft for my tootsies to rest on while I kick back and watch So You Think You Can Dance. Ya feel me?

Jenna at Paddington Way has the solution.  An adorable tufted ottoman made from of course, a coffee table.  Perfecto.

6 In bathroom

Looks like a milli, Jilly.

I recently read a thought provoking quote that said something about how the bathroom is the most private room in a home, and yet the most public.  Ok, so it wasn’t a thought-provoking quote as much as a line in the new Ikea catalog, but it’s still true. No one ever ‘needs’ to use the kitchen, youknowwhatI’msayin? So with one small room taking care of so many, it should receive a little extra attention, I think.

Jilly thought so too, and spent the last who-knows-how-long transforming this bathroom in her home.  She is a rockstar and pretty much did all the work herself, including tiling that shower that seemed like it might be the death of her for a while.  But she conquered it (I never doubted she would) and wow, was it ever worth it!

GORGEOUS, right?

She is hugely creative and found tons of money-saving ways to keep this thing low budget, even though it looks anything but.  For instance, she had the original mirror cut down into three pieces to make the new mirrors.  The light fixtures look like they came from Pottery Barn, but were actually bought from a restaurant going out of business.

You’ll have to head over to her blog to see all the details, including the $1,500 toilet that she discovered in a pile of toilets that had escaped a warehouse fire.  I think that is my very favorite part of this whole story. Oh!  I also love this barn door and artwork that she created too.  So perfect.  Much more to see on her blog Jilly & Mia.

Da plane, da plane!

This before dresser was so plain, but now it’s all … plane.  I mean, before, it was plain-Jane, and now it’s like “Plane, Jane!” You know?  Oh, you don’t?  I’m not making any sense you say?  Well scrolly-scroll down and you’ll see what I mean.

Riled and Styled

I was perusing Bloglandia recently and came across a new-to-me blog by a new-to-me blogger named Astral. I knew I had to share her bedroom makeover right away!  Whoulda thought a color scheme of mustard, black, and fuchsia would turn out to be so stunning? Not this girl.  It’s so bold and glamorous, I just want to ctl+c ctl+v it right into my own room.

I’m digging Astral’s style, and you can check out all the details of this room on her blog Astral Riles.

At Random

Random stuff time!  I have for you today a small collection of makeovers that don’t really fit in any category.  Unless there is a category called “Awesome Stuff You Should Look At Today,” then yes, that would work.  Here goes!

Shelly at 100 Things 2 Do had a cool set of old lockers. You might think “Old lockers have all kinds of character, no need to give them a makeover!”  True.  But sometimes old lockers also come with things like old smells, bad graffiti, and lessons in … uh … human anatomy. Ahem.  Shelly painted right over all that jazz and went the extra mile with monogram decals.

I’ve seen lots of door projects, but I have yet to see a door turned into a trophy display.  Until now! Annisa at A Pretty Happy Home wanted a place to show off her husband’s many awards from his races.  He only recently began running and happens to be very good at it.  (Maybe there’s hope for me.  But probably not.  Running and I don’t like each other at all).

She says, “This board makes a BIG impact in our office and talk about a conversation starter! I love that I was able to incorporate the fruits of his labor into our home’s decor in a way that makes both of us happy. Most of all, I’m proud of him for all that he’s accomplished and for truly changing his lifestyle and health. It doesn’t just impact him, but our entire family in a truly positive way.” High fives all around!

Have an old tube TV taking up space?  Do you also have a dog that lays around all day?  Lazy things. Why not combine the two?  Shanna at Restoration Redoux did, and it’s … not exaggerating … the cutest thing I’ve seen all day. And that includes my own children. (Ok, slight exaggeration.  I think my baby is pretty cute stuff).

While you recover from your cuteness attack, check out one last makeover, from Victoria at Trois Petites Filles. She has a shabby chic style that extends all they way to the appliances. I mean, really, why leave the poor fridge out of the decorating scheme?  He does so much for you.  She?  I think this one is definitely a she. C’est magnifique!

Dress Up and Cool Down

I just realized that there are 31 days in July. I mean, I KNEW that, but I guess I forgot about it this year. Imagine my surprise when I realized that today was not August 1st, like I had expected and planned all week long.  It’s thrown me for a loop.  You know what else?  I wish we could just delete the month of August.  It is my very least favorite.  Don’t believe me?  Come visit me in August sometime.  You’ll feel the same way once you’ve spent all your money on popsicles, air conditioning, and reconstructive surgery after your face melts off.

C’mon FALL!  Here are some dresser makeovers that have nothing to do with fall, but they are blue, so that kind of makes me think of cold, and hey, this one has a map on it, so at least I can dream of being somewhere in the world where August is pleasant! Like, say, anywhere else.

From Better After reader Kayla.  So cute!

And this before dresser was so country, I half expect it to be chewing a piece of hay, but Kirsten brought out its adorable side with a blue and cream paint job and new knobs, and now it’s as sweet as a farmer’s daughter.  I don’t think that is real phrase.  See it on her blog Made For A King.
