First Class

Marianne from Songbird is Nesting knew a tragic mistake had just been made when she watched as these chairs from her parent’s dining set were loaded into a van headed straight to the dumpster!

Her parents had owned the set since 1953, and when her father moved into a retirement apartment, he didn’t have room for all six chairs. No one wanted the leftovers, so they were en route to the dump when Marianne had a change of heart. Luckily she chased the van down in the nick of time and rescued this chair just seconds before it met its smelly fate.

Loving the postal bags she used to recover it with, and specially the hand painted postal bag she made to hang off the arm! Crisis averted!

That’s Genia-s!

Question: When is a blue kitchen better than a blue kitchen?
Answer: When it gets repainted a classic stony blue from the original barfy baby blue. Also, when the lighting is upgraded from el cheapo builder fixtures to chandeliers, plus the addition of new hardware, backsplash, crown moulding and custom artwork along with replacing the countertops, faucet, sink and just about everything else that isn’t bolted down or a load-bearing wall.

Lots more to see from Genia at her blog This Home of Ours. Thanks Genia!

Diamond Box

I’ll keep it short and sweet, since I hear a little girl waking up with something that sounds to be something nasty and croupish. Fun! Ok observe the grossness of this cheesy flowered jewelry box. Replace cheesy flower with harlequin pattern and watch jewelry box coolness-factor quadruple! From Chelsea at Room to Inspire.
(special thanks to Shanan for sending it my way!)

Coffee Date

Check out this sweet coffee table redo from Bethany at Craftopia!

Just a simple, easy coat or two of satin black spray paint and some silver paint on the knobs (they appear white in the pic, which would be a cool look too) and it goes from ‘dated’ to ‘date-able’ if you are the kind of person who would go on a date with furniture, because I am. Thanks Bethany!

Better Buffet

Did you know that anyone can send before and after submissions in to Better After? Of course you did, but sometimes I get emails where people had no idea! You don’t need to have a blog and it doesn’t have to be a DIY only project, all I require is a before and and after.
The higher quality of picture the better, of course, but even if all you can find for a before pic is that one time your friend was over helping your sort out your closet and you happened to snap a blurry pic of her behind for some reason and your before dresser was in the corner, well that works for me. Especially if your after is this stunning! From Deanne at My Second(hand) Life.

CraigsEasy

Dear Craigslist Users: I am about to rock your world.

HAVE. YOU. HEARD. about CraigsEasy? I am so excited to tell you about it.
It will change the way you use Craigslist forever. FOR-EVAH!!

So many redos that get submitted to Better After usually come with an email that says something like … “and I found it on Craigslist for $20!”
Because Craiglist is the bomb-shizzle, and is my second-in-command boyfriend, right behind IKEA. But, Craigslist can be obnoxious, what with all the scrolling and clicking and backspacing, and clicking and clicking. You have to click on every single link just to see what it is. Not cool, and a big fat waste of time.
But now it is …

CraigsEasy compiles your search listings into a single listing with pictures! Say you are searching for dressers. (Step one: download the button) All you do is search Craigslist like you normally would, then when the page of listings pops up, you hit the Easy button and poof! They are all magically sorted into one easy to read listing. I have used this ever since I found out about it, and I can attest that is is awesome.

Try it for yourself, you’ll be hooked!

I’m not being paid a cent to tell you about this, I just really love it and I think you will too!
