Exhume the Bathroom

I just … don’t know what to be most concerned about here. The duct tape holding the tub together? The lack of a sink which brings about a subsequent lack of handwashing? The gaping portal to hell in lieu of a mirror? The peach paint?

I don’t know, but I felt my eyes breathe tiny little sighs of relief when they gazed upon the happily updated after.

From Better After reader Janet who says “I feel like I am entering another dimension when I go in our new bathroom now!” AMEN.

Babies ain’t cheap…or are they?

Did you watch Dr. Phil yesterday? I happened to tune in for a few minutes, and the topic du jour was “OVERSEXED AND UNDER PROTECTED!!!” Sorry, that’s kind of a scary headline to attack you with so early in the morning, but that’s what Dr. Phil was trying to do. He was trying to scare these promiscuous men into realizing that their actions could have pricey consequences.

Literally. He took them shopping to show them how much a baby and all their gear really costs. And the whole time all I could think was…”A brand new bassinet for $150? Haven’t you heard of Craigslist Dr. Phil???”

Not that I’m advocating oversexing and underprotecting. But I am advocating saving money on baby stuff! Here’s a few ideas for inspiration:

Doll up a $20 ottoman like Better After reader Shannon did by poofing it up with a pillow and adding cute fabric to match the rest of the room!

Rescue an antique high-chair with striped Heather Bailey fabric and a colorful coat of paint! From Jayme at Finding Sweet. (She paid $3 for this chair!)

Or save your $150 and use it for a complete room overhaul like Erin did here when she needed to change out her girly nursery for an impending boy! Take that Dr. Phil! Lot’s more pics of this modern rustic room on her blog Team Southards.

Still Magnolia

I’m speechless! Magnolia’s new kitchen is SO many light years away from her old kitchen that my brain is still stuck somewhere back in time trying to think of something to say other than “Woah!” or “Duuuude.”

Lots more to see on her blog Simple Project. Ha! A ‘simple project’ in my world would be finding two matching shoes, but I guess ‘Check Out Our Major Kitchen Demolition’ isn’t as catchy of a title.

Life in a Fishbowl

If you happen to find a r e e a a l l y old TV set, (minus the TV) and you also own or have access to a few fish, well, you just got yourself one heck of an aquarium setup, yep. And it will probably be a lot more entertaining than what television currently offers us … not that I don’t find The Bachelor or Jersey Shore entertaining. It would just be nice to watch something that doesn’t require me to scrub my brain out with bleach afterwards.

See the whole story of how this came to be from Jacob at Jacob’s Junk.

4 the Love!

Hmmmm. I’m all for encouraging creativity in your children, but … this is the point where you gently take the Sharpie away and “accidentally” haul the dresser downstairs, load it in the trunk and drop it off at Goodwill. And sign that kid up for an art class, cuz damn.

You are probably thinking that I’m confused and used the wrong after picture. Nope! Kristy from 4 the Love of Wood used the fuggo dresser as bones for this lovely … what would you call it? It’s much fancier than a shelf … étagère? Fantastic all the same. Thanks Kristy!
