Dream On

True story: When I was a little girl, I yearned desperately for a nightstand. I know, I know, I was a big dreamer. It didn’t matter that my room was so small I could reach out of bed and touch the desk with my foot, nope, I needed a nightstand!  So I found an old plastic milk crate, turned it on its side, threw on old flowered pillowcase over the top, and voila! Nightstand! Yeah, it wasn’t the cutest thing.

But this one by Melissa is the nightstand childhood dreams are made of! Especially if you were a bit of a nerdy child like me, who dreamed of things like cute yet practical bedside eyeglass storage solutions. Check it out on her blog HOUSEography!

Gold Standard

I’m not really sure why this particular wall color was chosen for this particular room, but I’m willing to bet the decision making process involved darts being thrown at a color wheel or someone losing a bet.  And see that lovely gold couch?  It’s a sentimental piece, but the poor thing was just getting lost in the chaos.

Well, Trish was ready for a more serene feel, something a little more worthy of the couch, so out went the green walls and the checkered drapes in exchange for a soothing Wickham Gray and some lovely new curtains fashioned with Annie Selke fabric and IKEA panels. (Love that idea, going to try it.)  And boy howdy, does that couch shine now!

Check out more of this room on Trish’s blog, The Old Post Road.

Gunning For It

Erika was thinking along the same lines as my favorite character in my favorite movie ever, Wayne from Wayne’s World:  “A gun rack?  I don’t even own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack.”

So she turned her into a hall tree instead!  No way! Way.  (Seriously, that movie has the best quotes ever, I just wasted about half an hour reacquainting myself with them here).  And you can see more from Erika on her blog, Rose Colored Glasses.  Don’t you love the red suitcases and the pillow?  Most excellent.

In the Mood for Mod

Well hello there!  I am back in business after a lovely vacation. I am sunburned, buried in laundry and still finding sand in places sand should not be. And happy to be home, blogging it up for you!

So here’s a great way to start the week, a fabulous mod dresser redo from Stephanie at Birdhouse Family.   I’ve featured a makeover very similar to this on the plain IKEA dresser, and was even inspired to do the same thing to mine, but I ended up just painting it all white. So LAZY!  Who wants to paint AND stain AND look for cool drawer pulls too?  Well, actually, I do.  But just not today.

Luckily Stephanie has the follow-through that I lack and sent this fantastic (and finished) piece our way.  Thanks Stephanie!

Busy Beth

Beth of Sawdust and Embryos recently shared some of her redos with me, and man, that gal has been a busy bee!  If I churned out even one of these projects, I’d congratulate myself and take a couple of years off.  No, really, I wish I could produce makeovers left and right, but I can’t seem to make it happen at this season of life. I don’t know how people like Miss Mustard Seed and Brooke at All Things Thrifty do it, but I’m suspecting there’s some kind of deal with the devil involved.  (ha!  I kid!)

Anyway, let’s get to Beth’s fantasticness.  First up, this horrid, HORRID buffet thing somehow turns into a respectable, nay, resplendent changing table!  See more HERE.

Second, this chunky dresser got the VIP treatment, which is of course, being doused in gold.  That’s what I imagine happens inside the VIP rooms, right?  Servants smother you with liquid gold and money falls from the ceiling?  Don’t ruin my dreams.

Anyway, doesn’t it look like a Mayan treasure chest or what?  See more HERE.

And lastly this yellow hutch looked more like it had a place in the “tales as old as time” rather than the current times, so Beth transformed it from a singing cartoon armoire look-a-like to a bright and funky showstopper.  Notice the swirls on the back?  Whimsical!  See it HERE.  Amazing work, Beth!

A Rebirth

Hey there!  Posting will be light this week as I visit the great state of Texas!  But thanks so much for stopping by!

So, in the next life, if we happen to come back reincarnated as furniture, you can bet that something exactly like this secretary makeover by Lauren from West Furniture Revival would be me.  Gray, leaded glass, dark but natural interior, even some old books inside!  Because, um, those are just things I like.  Not things that define my personality and the sum total of my existence.  If that was the case, I’d probably come back as a half assembled bookcase from IKEA holding boxes of cereal and old copies of US Weekly.

 How about you?
