Hack, Hack!

I love a good Ikea hack, don’t you?  Here’s a great one from Marci at Timber and Lace.  She updated this lifeless Micke desk into a one of a kind piece with leftover walnut woodworking scraps and a hearty cocktail of varnishes and oils.  The details are what seal the deal here: like the little lion pulls (from Home Depot!) and the formerly flat-finished leg spray painted to a shine.  I love it!  I’m inspired to update my Ikea craftsmanship beyond simply “allen-wrench master.”  (My record: one bookshelf, 11 minutes. Booyah!)

Kick Up Your Heels

Yes, I know the 4th of July is over, but here’s a cute little decor idea in case you want to log it away for next year, or perhaps you are a pioneer descendant who celebrates the 24th of July, (which also happens to be California’s official Day of the American Cowboy) or maybe you are in charge of centerpieces at a cowboy themed wedding reception, or you just have some old cowboy boots that you don’t know what to do with.  Pretty sure we all fit into at least one of those categories, right?  Yeehaw!

Hey, remember the good old days? Back when the whole house only had one phone and it stayed attached to the wall?  And when people used the phone they sat on these quaint little telephone chairs, as a handy place to chat and store their phone books?  I don’t. 

But I DO remember having one phone in the house when I was a kid, and it had a really loooong cord. And one day I didn’t see it stretched across the kitchen, and I went running through the room and totally clotheslined myself and fell down and got a scar on my chin.  That would have never happened had we had a telephone chair.  Or a cordless phone. But a telephone chair is way cuter.  Because do you remember what cordless phones looked like in the good old days?

Hands Down Adorable

Kelli got her hands on this second-hand dresser and planned to put it in her little girl’s room, just as soon as she managed to get the cigarette stench out of it.  Once that was accomplished, it was full steam ahead into Cute Central, with pink racing stripes and girly knobs.

And how perfect that her daughter’s name is Autumn?  Because that just happens to also be a season that comes complete with tons of seasonal decor that you can find half price at Hobby Lobby after said season is over, and you can repaint that too!

My favorite part: you can barely see it here, so click on over to her blog to have a closer look, but Autumn’s tiny pink hand-print is on the side of the dresser, bottom left corner.  Ack, the sweetness is too much!

Glam Lamp, Gram!

Luckily my grandma is befuddled by computers, because if she ever actually got online, and somehow managed to find my blog, and by some small miracle located the “leave a comment” button, and then successfully entered her login information AND continued onward with the process by leaving a comment, it would probably be exclaiming in disgust that Michelle from Dream Home DIY stole her lamp!  Not really, my grandma is nice. 

But she does have this old brassy lamp somewhere, I’m sure of it.  I bet she wouldn’t recognize it with a coat of navy Krylon and a ruffly new lampshade though! So cute!

Baum Squad

Lindsay and her husband are in the business of flipping houses; which would be a dream job for me, if my husband was capable of fixing things without duct tape and I had an attention span longer than 15 minutes.  Check out this little house they recently remodeled.  And by “remodeled” I mean, totally gutted and rehabbed every square inch, not “slapped down some new linoleum” like many Realtors have tried to convince me of in the past.
