Getting Nailed

I like the nailhead trim look, I do.  I just haven’t ever given it a try myself.  Because I’m afraid my OCDness wouldn’t be able to handle it if I couldn’t. get. every. single. nail. to. line. up. perfectly.  I can foresee it ending badly, with me pulling out clumps of hair and rocking back and forth in the corner, weeping softly.

But oh.  Oh my loveness, look at this.  I’ve never considered a nailhead pattern before!  So much more room for “creative flair” (and failure) than a straight line!  From Joie Vivre from Kicsi Haz.  Don’t you love it?!

Swift and Speedy

Lamp redos!  Never get tired of them.  Probably because, as you may have noticed, I have a really short attention sp– hey, did you hear Taylor Swift singing “Lose Yourself” by Eminem at her concert in Detroit?  That was pretty cool.  What were we talking about?

Lamp redos, yes!  I like them because they only take about 30 seconds of spray painting, and wha-bam: you have a new lamp.  How cute is this one from Brook at Being Brook?  Answer: really cute.

When Plaid Attacks!

Perhaps there are better ways to pay homage to your Scottish ancestry than papering the entire bathroom in your clan’s tartan.  A nice plaque or something?  A small throw over the back of the couch?  Remember, plaid is like bagpipes:  Too much makes people want to stab themselves.  Uh, I mean, a little goes a long way.  (Actually, I love me some bagpipes.  But I’m serious about the plaid).

This simplified and pared down look comes from Angela at Fixing it Fancy.  I am diggin the driftwood mirror and dresser turned vanity.  And that light fixture!  She originally wanted a similar version for, but it cost $1,500. (what?!) So she decided to make one herself and spent less than $20!  DIGGIN it.

Feeling Farmy

Does this table bring back some haunting 80’s memories for you?  It reminds me of my old childhood chum Anaya, whose mom was ALL ABOUT the 80’s decor.  Lot’s of black lacquer and neon lamps and “art” like this:

I thought she was like, the coolest thing since Wonderbread.  She also let us watch Pretty Woman at Anaya’s birthday party, which now that I think about it, was a strange choice for a bunch of 10-year-old girls. Julia Roberts DID made for such a likeable hooker though, didn’t she?

Anyway, that’s where this old console table belonged, firmly in the 80’s.  But Jessica from Stellar Junk brought it back to life with a charming country feel.  Hmm, from washed out 80’s star to plucky country girl?  I think I just cooked up a new Julia Roberts movie!

I’m Like a Bird

If I leave here tomorrow…
Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on now,
‘Cause there’s too many places I’ve gotta see.

If I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn’t be the same…
Cause I’m as free as a bird now,
And this bird you cannot change,
no oh oh oh oh oh ohhh!
And this bird you cannot change,
no oh oh oh oh oh ohhh!

WON’T YOU FLYYYYY HIGH FREEEEEEEE BIRRRRRRD YEAHH!

(These celebratory Lynyrd Skynyrd lyrics are brought to you solely because of this cute little bird dresser from Kristen F at Chi Chi Studio.  Totally has nothing to do with the fact that my kids started school today.)

FREEEEEEE BIRRRDDD YEAH!!

A Fashionable Friday

I have a bunch of thrift store makeovers to share, but not the typical type, nope!  Instead of entering Goodwill and heading straight for the furniture section, today we are going to walk a few paces and hang a hard left, where we will find ourselves in … women’s wear?!  The land of denim jumpers and teddy bear sweatshirts and oversize polyester jumpsuits?  Oh yeah.  Get excited.  And say hello to Sara from Brand New Vintage, who has never met a second-hand jumpsuit she didn’t like.  Eventually.

Check out some of her amazing finds below, and give it up for her mad sewing skillz.   Behold:

Did you just say “NO WAY!?!”  And then scroll back up and say “NO WAY!?!” again?  So did I.

See it HERE.

I mean seriously.

See it HERE.

Oversize jumpsuit! You were such a nerd back in high school!  You uh, want to get together later?

See it HERE.

Well now I obviously can’t go another day without finding a matronly floral for myself.

See it HERE.

Holy sparkly bolero batman!  See it HERE

Tons more to see on her site, plus she’s wickedly funny too. Is Sara the coolest gal on the planet or what?

Oh, but wait!  If sewing isn’t your thang, there’s always our trusty friend: spray paint!

Pretty!  Cool!  Pretty cool.  I love the yellow especially.  These shoes are from Lindsay at Southern Lovely.  She even spray painted a belt to match!  I’m inspired.

Have a great weekend friend!
