Undoing Wrongdoings

There were so many style sins going on in this living room, it needed confession!  For starters, that mirrored “bar” area in the back was hogging up tons of space while adding zero visual appeal, the layout was weird, the furniture was depressing (have you ever seen a sadder pair of throw pillows in your entire life?) and the lone window was shrouded with droopy curtains and fake greenery.
But redemption cometh by way of Beth who flexed her professional staging muscles and brought it back to life. Notice how much bigger the window looks with properly hung curtains?  Best trick in the book. Check out more on her site Final Touches Redesign

Flag You Down

I will never look at reupholstering the same way again! (OK, I probably will: as something I am not convinced I can do without crying, swearing and hurting myself) BUT isn’t this such a unique take on a simple footstool redo?
Katie from SweetGirl Expressions wasn’t content to simply replace that worn out maroon.  She repainted and distressed the frame, went bigger and better with the nailhead trim, and, for the grand finale, a layered fabric Union Jack! I love the Union Jack trend, and I really love how in-your-face this one is not.  Sweet.

Two of a Kind

Hello and happy Monday!  How the heck was your weekend?  If you are still wiping out your eye boogies and trying to wake up, let me help with a couple of gorgeous hutches to lay your eyes upon.  And I don’t use that word lightly.  Gorgeous, I mean.  I say boogies, like, every half hour.
First this ho-hum hutch gets a dash of delicious turquoise, in addition to some great details, like the oversize crystal knobs and beadboard backing.  Plus chicken wire to replace that … other stuff.  She’s a keeper!  From the twin sisters Kelli and Kristi at Lolly Jane.

And did you know there is such thing as oversize chicken wire?  Yeah, it’s for oversize chickens.  Ok, that might not be true, but that’s what I would call the inserts on this hutch’s glass doors.  And it looked great as-is, or as-was, so Jen kept them intact while working on the rest of this dated piece.  Don’t you love how the blue accessories look against the white?  I’m a fan.  Read the epic tale on her blog Our DIY Diaries.

He’s no Jackson Pollock

Um, yay for letting your teenager be … expressive?  Congrats on unleashing his … creativity?  He seems really … imaginative!  Ok, let’s cut the crap, it looks like a crime scene in here.   This was what Julia inherited from the previous owners, who either had a troubled teen or enjoyed tar fights.  There was no way she was subjecting her guests to this mess until she got it fixed up, and thankfully, she did!  It’s beautiful!
I have to admit, I miss the splatters and stains just a little bit. (That is a total lie).

That’s That

Christy from This is From That shows us a great way to either:
A) fill up a big empty space on a wall
B) make use of that cool frame you bought but aren’t sure what to do with
C) make a rockin’ Christmas gift for your jewelry-loving sister/best friend/niece
D) appease your OCDness by creating a contained display that separates your jewelry into evenly-spaced sections so you can properly categorize it by item, size, length, color and occasion.
I know what I’m going with.
