Fond o’ your condo.

Brittany’s condo didn’t receive a makeover as much as a makeunder, as in, what was under there?  Surprise!  It was a dining room.  Actually, her entire 700 square foot condo got a facelift as she and her husband renovated it to flip it.  While living in it.  She doesn’t recommend it.

The kitchen was transformed too, right down to a fresh roll of paper towels on the holder.  Her only regret was not doing it sooner, so that they could have enjoyed it longer.  I’ll say!  That color in the kitchen alone would have been hard enough to live with. (PS: If you were curious, the paint color is Martha Stewart’s Angry Tomato). (Just kidding, I made that up).
See more before and afters of the entire condo on her blog  It’s A Twinderful Life.

Lofty Goals

I’m having loft envy here.  My loft is nothing like this one from Kara at Kara Paslay Designs.  Her loft features a huge framed-out window surrounded by hardwood, a built-in window seat that stretches from wall-to-wall, and sheet music covering the ceiling.  The most notable feature in my loft is the petrified bagel I found under the couch yesterday.  Sigh.  Someday, little loft.  Someday.

Chunka Chunka Burnin’ Love

Let’s make a list together.

Things that aren’t great chunky: milk, cell phones, applesauce, smoothies.

Things that are great chunky: babies, peanut butter, sweaters, gold chains.

Also, these chunky furniture makeovers.  They are chunkadelic. First from Shanna at Restoration Redoux who lightened up this dresser and removed the mirrors, which helped remove about three decades of age from it as well.

And check out this former gun rack turned “Beverage Acquirement Region,” or “Bar,” for short.  That’s what ‘bar’ is short for, right?  Kidding!  From Better After reader Lisa.

The Drug Report

Little.  Yellow.  Different.  No, wait, that’s Nuprin.  Remember Nuprin?  Whatever happened to Nuprin? It should be onto bigger and better things by now, like Nuprin geltabs or Nuprin tounge dissolving strips. But it’s not. It just disappeared. A mystery.
So anyway, this is neither little, nor yellow, but it’s different than before and that’s good enough for me.  I just like these colors together.  If you can call ‘the natural wood top of this dresser‘ a color.  And you can.  I just did.
I like the old handles, but I dig the new ones too.  Very cohesive, and I like how she filled in the horizontal lines.  Those lines are such liars!

Embarrassingly True Story: A Bathroom Break of Trust

Better After reader Virginie’s bathroom was a tad bit awkward, with the corner sink and such, but that’s nothing compared to the most awkward bathroom I’ve ever been in.  That honor belongs to the restroom at the Taco Bell in Globe, AZ.
I made a much needed pit-stop there a couple weeks ago, and discovered to my horror that none of the stall doors had locks.  Not broken locks. No locks. Whatsoever.  And I happened to be in the handicapped stall, so there was no way of holding the door closed whilst taking care of business.  I got walked in on twice!  Just total strangers swinging the door wide open, charging halfway into the stall before discovering me in my shame, hands over my face, profusely apologizing.  “I’m sorry!  I’m sorry! There’s no lock!”  I exclaimed.  “No lock!”
Stupid Taco Bell.
Anyway, enjoy Virginie’s awesome bathroom makeover.  I’m going to go die of embarrassment again.

French Revolution

I had the great fortune of meeting Kelli from Restore Interiors during the GMC/Habitat for Humanity trip I went on in August.  Unfortunately, most of that meeting went like this: “HiKelli, awesometomeetyou,Ihavetogospraypaintabunchofstuffrightnow, laterz!”
Hopefully our paths will cross again, wherein I won’t be such a frenzied mess, because she truly is a lovely person.  Maybe she would even teach me her secrets to transforming furniture from looking old like your-grandma’s-guestroom, to old like french-farmhouse-fantastique.
Oh snapplesauce, she did.  Right HERE.
