If it’s any console-ation…

Is a new console table on your wish list this year?  I have a specific nook in my dining room that has been thirsting for a console table since the dawn of time, but I’ve never found one that’s the right size.  Scratch that, I’ve never found one that’s the right size that I’m willing to pay for.

Better After reader Katie has the solution: buy a banged up old dining table on Craigslist for $20 and chop it down to console size.  It’s cheap, effective and looks fantastic, especially with that gray stain.  I LIKE IT.

It’s your birchday!

I just love a makeover with a little element of surprise.  I sure didn’t see this one coming from Debbie at Painted Therapy:

Ha! Isn’t that cool?  The coat rack already resembled a tree, and she’s always had an affinity for birch, so she decided to hand-paint the ‘bark’ herself.  Check out her blog for a close-up look HERE.

Now, hold on to your hats, because this next makeover also has an element of surprise that I don’t think you’ll see coming either.  Unless you guessed birch branches again. In that case, you are CORRECT!  This time Julie at Quicked Cozy used vinyl to create her birch branches, and you can see that they continue on the other side of this armoire if you check out her link.

Have you decorated anything with birch branches lately?  I feel like I’d better hop aboard that trend.  Obviously all the cool kids are doing it.

Here comes the sun … room.

So, it’s only three days into December and I already feel like I got ran over by a reindeer.  I think my stress stems from setting the tree up this weekend, which is such a debacle EVERY YEAR that I actually had nightmares about it beforehand. We have a saying at my house, “It’s not Christmas ’til the tree falls down!” Well, consider it Christmas.  It’s finally up for good now (hopefully) and it actually looks pretty nice (see it on instagram @ betterafterlnz), and the left side of my face has almost stopped twitching.  Success.

Please join me now in gazing at this beautiful sunroom makeover from Margaret at This Sold House.  It’s absolutely the most soothing sight I’ve seen in the last 72 hours.

Stepping Up In The World

Better After reader Becky is a busy mother of four, not to mention currently in the throes of nursing school. She needed a creative outlet, so she found solace in the soothing powers of spray paint. I don’t have anything against pink plastic princesses, but I can see how this thing would aggravate an overheated brain.  Looks fabulously-blended-in-with-the-decor now!

And Molly at Just A Little Creativity also wanted to walk that fine line between keeping her kids happy without sacrificing style, so check out what she did with this old end table.  It’s the swankiest Lego table I ever saw.

Advent-urous!

The kind folks at Silhouette recently sent their limited edition Advent Calendar Kit to our house to try out.  I was thrilled!  Finally, an easy way to remember to take my daily vitamin packs!

My kids were not so excited, so I made this instead:

(That reindeer does not actually have magical sparkling powers, my camera is just weird.)

Fun!  Thanks Silhouette!  Check out the Advent Calendar kit and everything that comes with it HERE.

Don’t forget the Black Friday special sale prices (with the code AFTER) end tomorrow
