Revive to Survive

Vintage wood purists, prepare to clutch your pearls in horror, because Jacqui just unapologetically painted right over this antique buffet. Le gasp!

Now, unclutch your pearls and take a deep cleansing breath, because it really looks fabulous. See?  Nothing to be afraid of. She did juuuuust the right amount of aging and distressing.   Not to mention adding that sweet little decorative piece at the back, AND reviving the wood on top.  Everyone wins!

Lots more to see from Jacqui at Porta Verde Studio.

Cottage Geez!

Blah blah blah, something mildly humorous, ok, now check out this amazing dining room makeover from Laurel at SoPo Cottage, because I can’t wait to share it!  So simple and stunning, I’m at a loss for words.  Except for ooh.  And ahhh.  And grunts of approval.

Here’s the view from the side, where she knocked out the walls and turned two dinky rooms into one large and lovely living space. I want to go to there.

Rectangled Up In Blue

If you can handle a three-step makeover, and you like rectangles, and you have ugly sliding closet doors that you hate, by golly, this is a project for you!

Step 1: Tape off some big rectangles. Step 2: Paint. Step 3: Step-hop-shimmy-slide, because your closet doors now look a million times better than before. So easy! From Gemma at The Sweetest Digs.

Pot so fast!

I’m showing you the handles of Better After reader Lexi’s dresser first, so you can fully appreciate how much effort it must have been to remove all the layers of paint from that thing.  Wowza, right?

No easy task. Unless! You try boiling the hardware (in an old pot that you aren’t planning to use for food again).  In my experience, that paint will come off like a charm.  As for the rest of the dresser, no such luck, it’s hours of scrapedy-scrape-scraping.  Unless! You have a big enough pot.  Kidding!

Great job Lexi!

Hot Topic

How’s your Monday?  Flipping freezing here. Winter finally decided to hit Phoenix; it’s like 50 degrees out there!  Don’t laugh, after surviving 100+ degree heat for months on end, this feels like the sub-sub-arctic. Plus there’s a slight breeze, so obviously it’s extra wretched out there. I am actually wearing four shirts right now.

So, I will be staying indoors today and enjoying this sweet gossip bench makeover from Haylie at Little Miss Fascinated.  I love the hot air balloon fabric so much.  I love anything hot.  Hot chocolate, hot air balloons, hot tubs, hot wheels, hot sauce, you name it.  I’m so cold!

Linkel Designs Giveaway! (GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED)

** GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED **

Well, I simply must say THANK YOU for all the kind comments I received today after my little freak-out. You were all so encouraging and kind, and every single note put a genuine smile on my face.  Thank you so much.  I will continue to keep on keeping on!

And now, a fun giveaway, just in time for the holidays: a $50 gift certificate to Linkel Designs!

Linkel Designs was born around the same time that owner Kelly’s first child was born. She decided she didn’t want to be away from her newborn son, so she turned her long-time beading hobby into a part-time job.  Cut to now, and she has a super-successful shop where she shares her one-of-a-kind jewelry designs with the world!

I took the liberty of making myself a wishlist, just in case any of you were wondering what to get a certain blogger this year, who you’ve probably never met in real life.  It’s not weird, I swear.

 1     2     3     4     5     6     7     8     9
So many cute things to choose from, and the prices are fabulous too.  Here are some more cool things you should know about Kelly and Linkel Designs:
1. She has over 450 items for sale in her shop.  Awesome.  Don’t you hate when you go to someone’s shop and they have like, eight things?
2. She is a professional violinist.  That has nothing to do with jewelry, but I thought you should know.
3. She has a 2012 Holiday collection out right now too!  Here are a few of my favorites:
Holly and Ivy                Pretty Poinsettia                 Gold Holiday

Check out Linkel Designs, and check a few names off your gift list.
Right now you can also get 10% off your purchase with the code BETTERAFTER!

Enter the giveaway here to win a $50 gift certificate to Linkel Designs.  Entering is easy!
