It’s getting closerrrr! The Mystery Thrift-Off participants have received their items, recovered from the shock, and are currently in the process of making them over.
Follow some of the behind-the-scenes action from the participants on Instagram and Twitter, (even though I am so terrible about remembering Twitter) with the hashtag #themysterythriftoff.
The big reveal and voting will happen the second week of June, so keep your eyeballz peeled for that. We will be voting on our favorites, but I’m still stumped on what categories to use, so I welcome your suggestions! Remember I’ve never done this before, so I’m still just figuring it out as we go along. But it will be super fun no matter what!
Huge thanks to our sponsor, Redesign by Goodwill for making it all possible!

May 10, 2015 at 5:33 AMThe shock only lasted a day, then with a little brainstorming I hit the AHA! idea. Yayyy! because I thought I might stay stumped for so much longer.

May 10, 2015 at 7:11 AMI am LOVING what scabies bear is becoming! Thanks for picking me! I didn’t know you were going to have more than one category. I thought it was just going to be the best transformation… So, how about… Best Transformation, Most Likely to Sell First or Would Sell for the Highest Price (you know, if all items were for sale in an imaginary shop), Most Creative Idea, Thriftiest Transformation (who put the least money into additional supplies), Lindsey’s Pick, Miss Congeniality… J/K I’m stuck now.

May 10, 2015 at 6:22 PMHappy Mother’s Day! I am excited to follow along–how about “The Better After Award” (for someone who most improved and item while retaining its original use, ie–an old lamp is now a great new lamp). “The Different After” (for the person who most dramatically and creatively changed the item’s purpose or essential use). The “Resellable After” for the person who most dramatically increased and item’s worth?????? This is so fun!

May 11, 2015 at 2:32 PMHope your Mother’s Day was filled with love and laughter, Lindsey. Looking forward to the results of these transformations! Turns out the top of my head had a few category suggestions in it, so thought I’d share:
1) Most complete transformation: How far from the original item has the transformation gone? ie Can you still tell it’s a plastic cactus? Do you still hear the Charlie Brown’s teacher noise in your head upon seeing it? Or is it completely unrecognizable yet integral to the new version of itself?
2) Most valuable upcycle: How useful/practical has the transformed version become? How many uses could it have?
3) Masterpiece d` least resistance? Some items are simply meant to sit n’ look pretty. Which thrift find could potentially merit its own art exhibit?
S’ all I’ve got for now. Have fun!
