Queen of WWWYG

If Working With What Ya Got was a country, Tanya would be it’s queen. Her kitchen makeover showed us that just because you don’t have the big bucks for a dream makeover right now, you can still have a beautiful home. And you should!

Same goes for her bathroom.  Nothing more was done besides cosmetic touch ups here.  New paint on the cabinets and walls.  A coat of spray paint on anything brassy. Some fresh art work. A farewell to that valance that looked like it was made from the pages of a seed catalog.

Now the mint vanity looks quirky and cute as opposed to a humble relic of the ’80s. And speaking of quirky, head on over to her blog to see the shower! I’ve never seen one quite like it. It’s like a portal through time! See more at Dans le Lakehouse.

I really love the artwork.  I have visions of creating something similar on a large scale, like, sofa-sized.  PS: Any ideas where I could buy a sofa-sized canvas?

I always find sofa sized canvas’s at Goodwill, I am always tempted to buy them just to have them when the painting itch happens. Granted these are usually the poorly painted mishaps of the 70’s but you are just painting over them!

OMG I am just in love with this. The grey makes the mint look intentional. WIN. I would also love to know the color/brand of the grey paint. It’s exactly what I want for my kitchen cabinets.

The mint definitely looks like it belongs now! And mixed with that dark grey, looks like it all belongs on the ocean! Very nice!

That is GORGEOUS! I didn’t care for that green countertop in the first photo, but wow it really sets off the room in the second photo!

Goodwill if you are lucky. Also, TJ Max or Ross sometimes have ones that you can paint over.

Considering that it looks like Tanya can do ANYTHING, I bet she could make it for you!

I have had good luck at Ikea and Ross for large art. Of course there is always Craig’s List.

Stretch your own canvas! A large canvas drop cloth, some wood slats for the frame and a staple gun should do the trick. You probably should prime the canvas before doing your design though.

I want to like this and I appreciate the work that’s gone into it. But honestly, it’s not great. The counter top makes it look like they didn’t have the cash to finish the job. I would have painted the mint. Don’t even get me started on the sink and floor. A rug will lift the very dated flooring. Sorry but this is a thumbs down for me. However the artwork is a big tick. Well done.

Thanks for sharing my bathroom makeover. And thanks, everyone, for all of your sweet comments 🙂

Kate Jordan: The paint on the cabinets is a Rustoleum Cabinet Refinishing system (no sanding or primer). It’s held up better than my painted kitchen cabinets, which surprised me, to be honest. This post shares the details and the paint colour (Castle):

LeeAnn: Haha, my hair is kind of wild. It’s grown out a lot since my profile pic and now just the bottom inch is teal. I badly need a haircut but I’m one snip away from being back to brunette so I keep putting it off…

Wow, very pretty. I agree with the comments that it looks intentional now. Nice seascape colors. All you’d need to do is plop in a white or steel sink and it would look modern with a nod to vintage and its older self. Shower would look fabulous with tiled walls and little mint accents — I can see it. Good job.
