Maybe you see this beautiful – if a little worn out and beaten up – mid century modern coffee table, and you are holding your breath, hoping to all goodness that it hasn’t been painted aqua and distressed, the drawers lined with kicky scrapbook paper, and a bird and or an inspirational phrase stenciled across the top. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
On something else.
But fear not. Beck knows her stuff, and did everything right with this solid walnut piece; just a good old fashioned stripping, sanding and refinishing job to bring out its original shine. Perfect.

February 27, 2014 at 3:52 PMThanks for the feature…I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this piece, and I am so proud to share it. And your feature reminded me to “update” my photo in the post to show off my new rug!
Gail, yes it opens…and has a nifty little sliding drawer inside. I am so bad about taking decent pictures! I will definitely take a picture of it with the top up so people can see how versatile this table is. I can not stress how awesome the mid century pieces are…amazes me that they are 50+ years old and still not a wobble or hobble! The workmanship and wood they used is amazing! It is a pure joy to bring them back to life!
Thanks again!!!

February 27, 2014 at 5:02 PMI’m baaaaack–Lindsay, where are you?
Soooooo glad that this beautiful coffee table was not painted “aqua and distressed, the drawers lined with kicky scrapbook paper, and a bird and or an inspirational phrase stenciled across the top.”
Actually, the kicky paper in the drawers would be okay because, well, you know, your drawers don’t show….

February 27, 2014 at 9:48 PMBeautiful restoration. Paint is fine for some furniture – particularly pieces with carving and turnings, but I agree that MCM furniture looks best restored to its original finish.

February 28, 2014 at 7:09 AMGod bless any person who restores MCM furniture correctly and doesn’t set their spray gun to “Ruin”! This is absolutely stunning. May I fight you for it? I’ll give you a few opening shots. =)

February 28, 2014 at 5:25 PMBeautiful! I’m all for painting furniture when it’s beyond refinishing. And I do LOVE painted furniture. BUT I’m so tired of distresed stuff 🙁 So yay to Beck for her wonderful job reviving this beauty 🙂
