From plain to planked: a kitchen makeover

Hey howdy hey!  Hope you had a great weekend.  If you’re a Phoenix local, and you missed my sister-in-law’s awesome vintage sale, good news! By popular demand she’s opening for one more weekend, this Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7th and 8th.  Info here.

And if you’re just here to see what the makeover flavor of the day is, well, you won’t be disappointed either. Here comes a fantastic kitchen makeover from  Ashley at Domestic Imperfection.

Before it looked like a kitchen you’d find in some really sad and boring office, e.g., the break room at the DMV.

After: Awesometown!  I absolutely love how she raised the cabinets up to the ceiling then added open shelving underneath.  And also the plank wall, and also the blue cabinets, and, and, and …  Great job Ashley!

Ashley’s kitchen makeover is amazing–I read her blog regularly–and what’s even better is that she and her husband did the work themselves on a pretty tight budget!

Wow, raising the short top cabinet to the ceiling and adding a shelf underneath is pretty ingenious. Great idea!

So fabulous! I’ve been thinking of painting my own cupboards. This could be the encouragement I need!

Oh my word….I’m going to paint my cabinets this winter too and I’ve been making myself CRAZY trying to think of what to do with that open space – I would love to put extra cabinets up there but this open-shelving-under-the-lifted-cabinets is brilliant!!! Looking into it tomorrow morning!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come back to look at this reno. I love that the cabinets were reused and pushed up to the ceiling. The open shelving added below is genius. I love the look of open shelving, but like to hide some of the everyday clutter – best of both. You do an awesome job of putting together interesting projects…inspiring minds like mine.
