Slimming Secrets

 Feb 11, 2013

Now that big, boxy TVs are a thing of the past, (they practically give them away anymore), so it is with big, boxy TV stands. I see them huddled around Craigslist all the time, looking for work, offering their services for cheap.  It's quite sad, really.

So it was with this down-on-her-luck armoire.  She had applied for a job as a bathroom storage shelf, but knew at her size, she had no chance.  That is, until Brendan saw potential in her great shape and solid construction.  He chopped her in half depthwise, removed her doors and gave her a professional paint job.  Now she'll be working happily for years to come. Yay for happy endings!

This is awesome, but a girl's gotta know, did he make another one out of the back piece? Great job!

What a great idea! There are so many of these old cabinets languishing around, and I have seen some other good re-use ideas, like play kitchens for kids and bar cabinets, but this is the best because the size is so much more useable!
Wonderful job!

Hah! I have that exact same armoire! It used to be for our TV but now it houses all of our art and craft supplies for our girls plus some of my husband's stained glass supplies. Its a honkin huge piece of furniture so I can see why they needed to cut it in half, literally. It looks great now:)

I see those things at thrift stores everywhere. I just wanna bring them all home and give them a little TLC and make them over. The after pic looks great!

What a beautiful transformation! The idea of making it black is fabulous and lends so much character to the poor, jobless TV closet...

I did the same thing to our desktop computer armoire. It was originally 24" deep; I cut it down to 18". A much more manageable size.

I think there are a ton of these armoires out there just forlorn and lonely. A friend of mine recently turned his into a dressing space.

I also love the ones I've seen turned into bars!
