Restuffed and Tufts

Hey howdy hey, how was your weekend?  Not too eventful here.  My husband Matt is the principal of a high school, and so the last few weeks of school are crazy hectic for him, and we hardly see him at all.  And, I don’t know about you, but this is about the time of year when I basically give up. I’m just as ready for summer break as my boys are.  “Oh, you’re wearing your pajama shirt to school?  Fine.  You needed a haircut two months ago?  I’ll just snip around your ears with the kitchen scissors and we’ll call it good.  You’re only packing five carrots and a pudding in your lunch?  Sounds delicious.”  Anyone else?  Please tell me I’m not the only one.
Anyway, in before and after news, here is a fabulous chair makeover from Mindi who is also a mom to three boys, so she probably knows what I’m talking about.  I love the flat black nailheads she used instead of the typical rounded ones.  Don’t believe me? I wouldn’t lie to you! Get a closer look on her blog The Sprouted Root.

  1. I have five daughters, and I can totally relate to ‘giving up’ about this time…. My husband is in the greenhouse business, so we rarely see him as well, with all the long hours he puts in. I’m not sure who is more excited about summer – me or the girls!

  2. I’m glad I’m not alone Bets! I’m looking forward to sleeping in a bit and not having to worry about the morning rush for a while.

  3. You are so not alone. I literally cut my son’s hair with regular sciccors in the kitchen today and mostly just around his ears and a little in the front giving him that Perfect Lloyd christmas haircut! Love the chair it looks like it could be a display chair in a fancy place

  4. I TOTALLY did that regarding hair cuts and my boys. Yes, ready for summer. This is a lovely redo.

  6. Congrats on winning the DVD Kylea!! Of course I’m totally bummed I didn’t win…. I was hoping it was going to come all the way out over here in New Zealand! Drat. hehehe.
Over here we have the end of the school year in December which is the start of our summer. Summer hols over xmas means lots of bbq’s at the beach and camping. YES! Summer in NZ is dellicious.
I LOVE Mindi’s chair make-over. At first I was disappointed that the pleated back was gone, but I love the buttoned look too. Well done. Very classy. Antonia

  7. Yes, I have totally been in that mood for at least a week or so! Just gettin by…7 more days!!!

  8. I’m definitely guilty of only cutting my son’s hair around his ears. Lately he wants to have Beiber hair (I don’t get it. But whatever, it’s his hair)and doesn’t let me near his bangs. He looks like he has developed tick because he has started swishing his head to get his imaginary hair out of his eyes.

Also, in a moment I have no recollection of, it seems I told him he could have a mohawk this summer. He’s been steadfastly growing it out so it can be really spiky. Third graders…Sheesh.

  9. Ha! I love your true confessions of giving up. I eagerly count down the days until summer vacation. I think I am more excited than my 3 boys :)

  10. I’m pretty sure that everyone involved in any way in schools and education at any lever feels exactly the same about these 2 weeks of school before summer! Everybody pretty much “phones it in”!! LOL! And that includes the kids, the parents, the teachers, the Principal, the cafeteria workers, the janitors, the coaches, the secretaries, the groundskeepers, the maintenance staff, the counselors, and the Librarian!!!

It was like that when I was a kid and its still the same today, 55 years later! Somethings NEVER change!

  11. Here in the Land of Oz our kids have the holiday in December. Hot hot hot time of year! My kidlets are all growed up now, but I live near a school and that BONG BONG BONG of the electronic bell is always a damned nuisance. Blessing when they turn it off for the breaks. Except for last year summer break when they forgot to turn it off.Man,I was standing there with a pair of wire cutters till I realised I can’t climb security fences that well. Oh well. Enjoy your well earned summer break!

  12. Love the chair…because I have one that belonged to my Grandma…which I had recovered…but kept all the ‘barrel-back’ sections. I treasure it every day!

  13. It looks fantastic but I’d have tried to keep those barrel back bitgs (thanks to Marcia as I had no idea what they were called) but maybe they were passed their use by date. Would love to try that on my blog … will have to search for one.
