Insider Tips

It's officially summer break here.  Heaven help us all.  On the one hand, I'm looking forward to sleeping in a little bit and avoiding the morning rush that always leaves me feeling like I'm about to have a stroke, but on the other hand, what am I supposed to do with the other 23.5 hours of the day!?!?  Summer break in Arizona is officially unfair.  There's no sending the kids out to play, or breezy bike rides, or lazy days roaming the neighborhood with friends.  No.  We are indoors, blinds drawn, shackled to the AC, pants optional.  Anyway, I'll stop whining now.  But feel sorry for me.

Down to business.  Wait, what is this?  This does NOT look like a before picture.  No, Virginia redid her kitchen, and this is the after.  But look what was lurking inside those freshly painted cabinets...

Unpainted cabinets!  It's the dirty little secret that no one likes to talk about.
But Virginia went the extra mile and not only painted them, she chalkboard painted them!  That's like, the extra-extra mile.  Get an up close look on her blog Live Love DIY.

Cool! I'm painting my cabinets soon. Not looking forward to it! Have to keep all these great cabinet updates in my mind's eye to give me the strength!

That would be perfect for my mother in law who constantly puts my dishes away in the wrong place "because it makes more sense that way."

Love the kitchen makeover! I feel your pain with summer heat- we've already gotten into the 100's here in OK. Stay cool over there!

Hello AWESOME IDEA! Super cute.
This is our third summer in Houston (we are from WI where summer is a beautiful, lazy time with GORGEOUS weather). Summer in Houston is like summer in AZ + humidity. Good times shackled to the A/C. ;-)

I wish my cabinets were that empty!!! My fiance is a little bit of a collecto of plastic cups and tupperware that are impossible to organize. Oh, and lest I forget, all the gadgets!!!

104ยบ yesterday in Austin, Texas. I feel your Summer blahs.

Pretty cabinets!

Ack! My cabinets were the same way...faux finished on the outside (noooo!), old 80s wood on the inside. Took care of that though...no worries. These look great, and I love the chalkboard paint!

Cute makeover on the outside, but why chalkboard paint? In the kitchen? How much do the shelves change that it needs to be erasable? The dust would be everywhere. Wouldn't want that on my dishes. Unless you change your shelves every day? I'm thinking vinyl would be a good option. Removable, but only when needed.

Oh, it's just something fun to do....a little creative idea, if you will! The chalk dust doesn't get anywhere either! We just like things simple and clean and a little fun 'round here! Thanks everyone for such sweet comments! :) ~ Virginia @LiveLoveDIY
