Drifting and Dark

 May 3, 2012

I've been out thrifting plenty of times and seen this type of furniture. Very '80s.  Rounded edges. Light stain. No hope of ever un-eighties-ifying it. At least, that's what I always thought, but big surprise! I was wrong!  If just so happens that if you give it a whitewashed look by applying a light coat of chalk paint and roughing it up a bit, it will turn out very driftwoody and beachy.  I really am impressed!

See the whole tutorial on Wendy's blog HerBallistic Garden.

Korrie from Red Hen Home also found herself in charge of making over a dresser with a similar style. Only she got all Darth Vader on it and went to the dark side with an espresso gel stain.  I've never used such a product, but Korrie really sings its praises, and I can see why.  It looks fan-flipping-tastic.  Apparently the gel stain also has a chocolate pudding-like consistency, which is reason enough to give it a try right there.
