It really should be a crime for builders to leave wasted space under the stairs. Yes, a crime punishable by death, or at the very least, a life-sentence of carefully scootching past a perilous tower of teetering storage bins stacked high in the garage, because there's nowhere else in your stupid house to put them, every SINGLE DAY. Because that's what you have condemned me to, builders!

Not only did she create a space to stash her stuff, she also transformed it into a hideout fit for royalty, and she did the whole thing by herself in 18 days. Awesome. We had old "hotel" open style stairs in our 1970's house and had them changed to stairs with backings and had a closet built in under them. Looks SO MUCH better and now we have a small closet for our shoes. Our builder said the door looked like it was an Alice in Wonderland door since we had it cut down a little (around 5'7" for door height). This before and after kind of reminds me of our new remodeled stairs:)

love it! why didn't my parents do this for me when i was a kid? instead they made under our stairs into a wine cellar lol

OMG I love this makeover! My house has the same thing...except that there's the water heater and boiler under the stairs, so there's no way to reclaim that space

Oh that is totally awesome...we are moving into our new home in a week and it has stairs, and a cupboard underneath I have been wondering what to do with...now I know...oh wow my kids are going to love it!

This has to be the coolest thing ever!!! I would love to open up an area under a stairs to store all my yarn. Wouldn't that be a visual wonderland to open up :)
