Thanks! Surprise! And also, Chair!

 Feb 28, 2011

Hot dang! I asked for feedback, and I got it! Thank you so much to everyone who offered their opinion. 99.9% of you voted NAY on the rollover doodad. I hear you loud and clear; no changes will be happening around here! Thanks again, I almost feel like I should pick a winning comment, there were so many! Oh what the heck, why not.

Kimi Coopet said... In theory, it's great! But, in reality, not so much! I do a lot of reading on my phone and you can't see it that way! February 28, 2011 3:45 PM

Shoot me an email Kimi and I will send something fabulous your way! (Um, it probably won't be that fabulous, since I don't know what it is yet. Heck it could be this empty yogurt container sitting next to my computer right now, but we all like getting surprises in the mail right? Ok, ok, I promise it will be cooler than that, but don't get overly excited.)

And, for your viewing pleasure, here's one last before and after for the day, a dumpster find from Sean. This is probably the nicest thing I've seen pulled out of a dumpster yet. Looks even better with the yellow and fuchsia tiger print! Loves it. See it here: Q Projects.

Put a bird on it!

Merry Monday! Did you watch the Oscars? Bo-ring. I had much higher hopes for James Franco, but he came off totally stoned. And not in an amusing way. Anyhoodle, down to business:

Sweet dresser redo from Lindy at Cottage Hill! Sorry if you've seen this before, but it totally reminds me of this clip. And in a good way! Thanks Lindy!

Members Only

 Feb 25, 2011

So there's this pretty popular club nowadays. The "I Painted My Hutch White" Club. It's easy to become a member. Step one, find a hutch. Step two, paint it white. Step three, print off your IPMHWC member nametag. Just kidding, there is no nametag. Not yet anyway.

So if you want to join the club, and you aren't doing anything this weekend, you are now. Boom!

Weekend. Plans. Done. Here comes some inspiration:

Love the Greek feel to this one from Alyse at Sweetest Scraps

Two become one from Lindsay at Country Girl Home. For some reason I keep invisioning this one with red handles. That would knock it right off the cuteness meter.

Whitney from the Kenworthy's got some help from her friend Rachelle to finish this bad boy. Looks so crisp and classy now!

April at Frilly Frolic helped her mother (who has arthritis) redo this hutch from 1000 miles away! She was so proud of her Mama when she saw the final results, that she wanted to share it with the world!

I'm loving this cool gray background on Better After reader Melise's hutch.

And last one from Leah at Little Place Called Home Sweet Home who proves that chicken wire can be chic, and who I'm extra fond of just because her blog is playing my current favorite song.

Have a great weekend friends! As always, thank so much for reading this here blog, and for all your sweet comments and emails! Now go makeover something and send me the pictures!

U-turn Lantern

I love this Pottery Barn knock-off idea from Jill! She found this brassy lantern at her local ReStore for $5! There are also tons of these at my local ReStore, but my ReStore is crusty, expensive and staffed by an old guy named Rueben who is allergic to friendliness. It's not my favorite. But I really like this idea.

I would probably keep a few links of chain on there for a bit of motion though, what do you think?

Check it out on Jill's blog HERE. Thanks Jill!

Make a Seat

 Feb 24, 2011

File this under: "YES. Totally going to do this one someday." Jeanne from JandJhome took the legs off a table, attached them to a board, and made a perfectly sized end of the bed bench! Just like that.

Easy as pie. Easy peazy lemon squeeze.

Ok, so maybe there were a few other steps involved, something about rust remover and staple guns, but whatever, it looks easy enough for me! I'm going to make one! You should too! All the cool kids are doing it. Thanks Jeanne!

Bambi Better

Remember yesterday how I was all, "Don't change the original hardware, blah blah blah?" Well ... Bambi changed her dresser's hardware here and I think it looks pretty cool. Those former handles looked like squashed bugs. Also lovin' the craft paper on the drawers; it makes the whole piece edgy and interesting instead of so boring I think I fell asleep looking at it.

See more on her blog Crafting Occurs.

Thanks Bambi!

Tricky Tracy

Tracy emailed me to tell me that she painted her counters to look like granite. I almost emailed her back to say, "I think you meant to write that you REPLACED your counters with granite." Silly Tracy.

Obviously that is just new granite, right? Right? Wrong-o! She was telling the truth.

Check out her blog General Splendour to see how it was done with nothing much besides paint, Martha Stewart glitter and around $115!

Just Pulling Your Leg

 Feb 23, 2011

I'm going to dust off my "Hey! Original hardware is awesome! Leave it be!" soapbox for a minute.

Erica knows what I'm talking about. She took this dresser from battered and beat into lovely, layered and new in blue. But she kept the old pulls. And why not! They are charming and match the character of the dresser.

Just because a piece of furniture is old and funky doesn't mean the pulls have to go, (unless of course, you are missing a few). Take another look and see if they could benefit from a little spray paint too.
That's what Erica did here. And if she hadn't? Well, I photoshopped a little after version of my own. Bland stainless steel. It's just not the same, folks, see what I mean? See more from Erica on her blog The Polka-Dot Umbrella.

Freddy & Petunia, Justin & Me

Catherine from Freddy and Petunia is about to blow your mind. Never again will you look at boxy old nightstands the same way again. Sorry, that sentence was a little redundant. But I'm kind of busy right now, Justin Bieber is on The Talk. That sentence was a little embarrassing. But actually, I'm more ashamed of the fact that I'm actually watching The Talk than I am to be a Beileiber. He's such a cutie pie, isn't he? Anyway.

Check it out!

(ok, ok, so Catherine forgot to take a before of this one. So this is an approximate guess. Butyougettheidea).

Better Baño

You know when you are out to eat with friends at let's say, a Mexican restaurant, and it's all fun and noise and nachos, and then you excuse yourself to go to the bathroom, and to get there you have to walk down a looong gloomy hallway, and then once you get in the bathroom it is totally empty, and it is really dark and quiet in there, and it's painted some deep shade of red that was probably meant to look festive, but is bordering on satanic, and all you can think about is doing your business as fast as possible and getting out of there because this bathroom is creeping you the creep out? You know?

Anyway, that's what Amber's before bathroom reminded me of just a tad.

But check out the after folks! Dreamy with a capital DREAM! That's the kind of bathroom you whip out the sodoku in. Check it out here: Happiness is 5ive.

Refreshments Served

 Feb 22, 2011

So the other day I was searching Craigslist, and came across some furniture that looked much more spectacular than the usual stain soaked sofas, heavily used IKEA items, and brittle wicker that is the Phoenix Craigslist norm.

I followed a little link and found Kacey's website Refreshed Decor. And it certainly was refreshing!

Take a look:

Trendy Trellis

So the trellis trend is pretty hot right now, I'd say. I happen to like it! I happened to paint a very similar design as the one that Stephanie from The Powers That Be did on this armoire on some boring curtains this weekend! Did I take pictures? Of course not silly. But Stephanie did! Behold:
